Machine learning-based prediction of material properties is often hampered by the lack of sufficiently large training data sets. The majority of such measurement data is embedded in scientific literature and the ability to automatically extract these data is essential to support the development of reliable property prediction methods. In this work, we describe a methodology for developing an automatic property extraction framework using material solubility as the target property. We create a training and evaluation data set containing tags for solubility-related entities using a combination of regular expressions and manual tagging. We then compare five entity recognition models leveraging both token-level and span-level architectures on the task of classifying solute names, solubility values, and solubility units. Additionally, we explore a novel pretraining approach that leverages automated chemical name and quantity extraction tools to generate large datasets that do not rely on intensive manual tagging. Finally, we perform an analysis to identify the causes of classification errors.
Document alignment techniques based on multilingual sentence representations have recently shown state of the art results. However, these techniques rely on unsupervised distance measurement techniques, which cannot be fined-tuned to the task at hand . In this paper, instead of these unsupervised distance measurement techniques, we employ Metric Learning to derive task-specific distance measurements. These measurements are supervised, meaning that the distance measurement metric is trained using a parallel dataset. Using a dataset belonging to English, Sinhala, and Tamil, which belong to three different language families, we show that these task-specific supervised distance learning metrics outperform their unsupervised counterparts, for document alignment.
This paper presents our wining contribution to SemEval 2021 Task 8: MeasEval. The purpose of this task is identifying the counts and measurements from clinical scientific discourse, including quantities, entities, properties, qualifiers, units, modif iers, and their mutual relations. This task can be induced to a joint entity and relation extraction problem. Accordingly, we propose CONNER, a cascade count and measurement extraction tool that can identify entities and the corresponding relations in a two-step pipeline model. We provide a detailed description of the proposed model hereinafter. Furthermore, the impact of the essential modules and our in-process technical schemes are also investigated.
Corner cubes are one of the most important optical tools used in new optical devices and optical LIDAR. This paper compares two different designs of the hollow and solid tetrahedral corner cubes and determines the relation between the Retroreflectio n index and the surface quality N and the surface flatness N and its effect on the focal length of the hollow and solid corner cube.
The evaluation of the capacity of signalized intersections is one of the most important parameter used in the planning, design, operation and management of urban street networks. The calculation of capacity depends on the estimation of the saturati on flow of the signalized intersections. The highway Capacity Manual (HCM 2010) is used to estimate and analyze the saturation flow. This method is widely used in many countries around the world, including Syria. It reflects the local conditions in the United States of America; therefore it may not be suitable for use in our local conditions. This study includes estimation of the field saturation flow depending on the headways between the vehicles in the queues, and comparing the field results of the saturation flow with the values resulting from using the HCM. The study was conducted on three intersections in the Tartous city. The analysis was based on data collection using video. The final results confirmed that there is a clear difference between the field measurement of the saturation flow and computation value, Which confirms that it cannot be used for our local conditions.
The present study aimed to extract the Indicators of Validity and Reliability of the Toulouse Self-Esteem Scale - Children's Copy. The Scale was translated from French to Arabic and presented to a group of Arabic language specialists to ensure that the wording is correct, after which a counter-translation into the original language (French) was performed to ensure the accuracy of the translation. The scale was applied to a random sample of 413 children in Lattakia. The results of the study showed a high level of accuracy with a high degree of stability (repeatability of 0.776 and alpha-cronbach 0.81 ), identical to the statistical indicators of the Scale in its French version. A hypothesis was then tested as to whether there was a difference between the average male and female scores on the scale. It was found that there was a difference on the macro scale, the dimensions of social self-sufficiency and school self-interest for females. And 71.4% of individuals are at the high level of self-esteem. The research concluded that more studies on the scale should be carried out in different settings and should be used in the fields of education and psychology
Multitiered ecommerce applications are distributed applications where application logic is divided into components according to function. These components are installed on different machines, depending on the tier to which the application component belongs , additionally, these applications provide ecommerce services like online shopping
This Paper offers an effective method to measure the length of the femur in Fetal Ultrasound Images, it applies a series of steps starting with the reducing amount of noise in these images, and then converted them to a binary form and uses morphol ogical operations to segment the femur and isolate it from the rest of the image objects, then it applies an Edge Detector in order to find the edges of the bone, then uses the Hough Transform to detect straight lines in the image. we apply overlapping for resulted lines on the original image, finally we choose the most significant and longest straight line which is corresponding to the length of the femur. The proposed method facilitates the measurement of the femur without the help of a physician through a series of steps.
A comprehensive literature review was carried out in order to identify potential factors that have an influence on project performance. Based on this review, a formal questionnaire survey was developed and sent to a carefully selected focus group of construction experts from within the Syrian construction industry.
Performance improvement in Construction companies is a complex task, which requires great effort and care. The research aims to analyze the status of work at the general company for building and construction, in order to determine the available ma nagement problems and then determine the priorities that will be areas of possible improvement of the performance of the company. There used three tools to asses inputs ,processes and outputs , The result of evaluating the maturity (inputs) of project management showed weakness in performance as The rate of project management maturity reached 2.3 out of 5. Quality indicators (outputs) , where rates were less than the average, were identified, as it was the results of questionnaire of measuring customer satisfaction for a sample of projects implemented by the company and the mean of customer satisfaction was 2.73 out of 5. Finally main processes of the company were drown and then the “FMEA " was used to identify the processes which face trouble which were 41 process. As a result of this comprehensive analysis the priority areas and procedures for the performance improvement were proposed.
