We investigate predictors of anti-Asian hate among Twitter users throughout COVID-19. With the rise of xenophobia and polarization that has accompanied widespread social media usage in many nations, online hate has become a major social issue, attrac ting many researchers. Here, we apply natural language processing techniques to characterize social media users who began to post anti-Asian hate messages during COVID-19. We compare two user groups---those who posted anti-Asian slurs and those who did not---with respect to a rich set of features measured with data prior to COVID-19 and show that it is possible to predict who later publicly posted anti-Asian slurs. Our analysis of predictive features underlines the potential impact of news media and information sources that report on online hate and calls for further investigation into the role of polarized communication networks and news media.
Developing a unified multilingual model has been a long pursuing goal for machine translation. However, existing approaches suffer from performance degradation - a single multilingual model is inferior to separately trained bilingual ones on rich-res ource languages. We conjecture that such a phenomenon is due to interference brought by joint training with multiple languages. To accommodate the issue, we propose CIAT, an adapted Transformer model with a small parameter overhead for multilingual machine translation. We evaluate CIAT on multiple benchmark datasets, including IWSLT, OPUS-100, and WMT. Experiments show that the CIAT consistently outperforms strong multilingual baselines on 64 of total 66 language directions, 42 of which have above 0.5 BLEU improvement.
Subtle and overt racism is still present both in physical and online communities today and has impacted many lives in different segments of the society. In this short piece of work, we present how we're tackling this societal issue with Natural Langu age Processing. We are releasing BiasCorp, a dataset containing 139,090 comments and news segment from three specific sources - Fox News, BreitbartNews and YouTube. The first batch (45,000 manually annotated) is ready for publication. We are currently in the final phase of manually labeling the remaining dataset using Amazon Mechanical Turk. BERT has been used widely in several downstream tasks. In this work, we present hBERT, where we modify certain layers of the pretrained BERT model with the new Hopfield Layer. hBert generalizes well across different distributions with the added advantage of a reduced model complexity. We are also releasing a JavaScript library 3 and a Chrome Extension Application, to help developers make use of our trained model in web applications (say chat application) and for users to identify and report racially biased contents on the web respectively
Corruption is defined as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It is a world-wide phenomenon, particularly in the developing societies. It has been mentioned as a cause of destruction of many empires and powerful states in the history. No ef fective evidence-based prevention or treatment has been identified, yet. The objective of this study is to describe a conceptual framework using psychosocial analysis based on current scientific theories to explain corruption as a contagious psychosocial disorder to be correctly diagnosed, prevented and treated. Methods: This is a theoretic conceptual analysis describing corruption for the first time in terms of contagious psychosocial disorder. The sample concerns structural and functional positions at the Child Mental Health Center (CMHC) in the city of Duhok, Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI) during December 2018 - February 2019.No experimental or clinical data are included. Accordingly, a package of Psychosocial Anti-Corruption Tools (PACT) is presented as an intervention to replace identified actions of corruption. Results: Specific diagnostic criteria, such as: Illegal or un authorized gain, more than one salary, unjustified power position…etc., are found to classify corruption as a contagious psychosocial disorder according to current theories concerning a etiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, consequences, prevention and treatment. This is the first pilot project that has been started at a governmental organization. Conclusions: Corruption can be Hypothesised as a contagious psychosocial disorder to be tested in further rigorous research in other cultures, societies, and countries where corruption is prevailing.
Result in any State two commitments one respect for human rights and the other counter-terrorism, the source of these commitments is the international norms and conventions on the one hand and constitutional texts on the other.
The research was conducted to study an efficacy of the fungus Trichoderma harzianumin controlling the gray mold disease on tomato that causing by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. A local isolate of the fungus T. harzianum was studied under laboratory conditions using two methods: antagonism and the spore suspension.
This research aimed to study reality small business in Syria between 2001 & 2017, through discussing, the different definitions of small business and the criteria for determining them comparison for other countries. It also highlights the reality o f these business in Syria over the past sixteen-year. Moreover, it presents the most important challenges that the work of these business faces, in addition, it discusses the most prominent laws concerning the small business. Finally, the research presents a number of recommendations to activate the role of this important sector.
The research was conducted in Al- Mokhtaria Research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Homs, Syria during season 2016. The efficacy of some plant extracts (Melia azedarach L., Schinus molle L., Styrax officinalis L., Eucalyptus camaldulensis De., Nerium oleander L.) were tested against Stephanitis pyri F. (Tingidae: Heteroptera) and compared with traditional insecticides (Cypermethrin, Chlorpyrifos Ethel).
Thus, the scientific fact proved that any individual state efforts can not eliminate crime, in addition to the border between the countries has facilitated the overlapping international criminals to move from different countries and doing crimes. Then demonstrated the need for an international entity (Interpol) to take it upon, do the job and cooperates through various police agencies in the country, especially through the exchange of information related to the crime and the offender as quickly as possible.
This research was conducted in a field of wheat located at Suran (20 kilometers to the north of Hama city). The aim was to study the influence of wheat planting date on wheat stem sawflies infestation levels. The research showed that the early wh eat seeding led to breaking the synchronization between the sensitive wheat development period suitable for the wheat stem sawfly infection and the existence of the insects in the fields.
