The study includes 27 patients seen in AL-ASSAD University Hospital faculty of medicine Tishreen university Lattakia with gunshot sciatic nerve injury 11 of them have neurosurgery for nerve injury repair and 16 treated conservatory. All patients hav e regular physical therapy sessions for one year. The strengths of all Muscles which innervated by sciatic nerve branches have improved for all patients. The best improvement was seen at tibial branch innervated muscles and the worst was at deep peroneal branch innervated muscles. Also the improvement at sciatic nerve innervated muscles was better in conservative patients group comparing with surgical one. The best strengths were at semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and gastrocnemius musceles and the worst was at tibialis anterior muscle
This study was executed at Al Assad hospital, Lattakia . is a retrospective study of ovarian mass patients who had been accepted in the department of gynecology during the period between 1/1/2009 and 31/12/2013 .The aim was to study age distribution of benign and malignant tumors , and to study the relation between Ca125 and pre/postmenopausal benign and malignant tumors. The study included 148 patients . The patients' ages ranged between 13-78 years , and the majority of benign tumors occurred in the age group 21- 40 years and the majority of malignant tumors occurred in the age group 51- 60 years . The commonest tumors were epithelial in origin followed by the germ cell tumors followed by sex cord stromal tumors and metastatic tumors. In benign tumorsCa125>=35u/ml was more frequently with endometriosis followed by serous tumors . and in malignant tumors was more frequently with serous tumors followed by mucinous tumors. The highest sensitivity of ca125 level was in prediction postmenopausal benign tumors but with low specificity followed by prediction postmenopausal malignant tumors with high specificity. The quality of the test was higher in postmenopausal benign/malignant tumors compared to premenopausal tumors
Low birth weight and premature infant need complementary treatment intervention to promote optimal clinical outcome and to decrease the immediate adversities and developmental deficits associated with prematurity and intensive care unit environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of complementary treatment program on the clinical outcome for preterm and low birth weight infant. The study was conducted at the pediatric intensive care units of AL-Assad hospital and maternal &child hospital (lattakia). The sample was divided into two groups of 20 infants experimental croup and 10 infant control croup with gestational age less than 36 weeks at birth, birth weight less than 2500g and more than 1500 g, and no congenital anomalies. The clinical outcome was significantly improved in clinical outcome, while no change in the control group. The experimental group had significantly weight gain, higher scores for awake state and motor activity than the control group. Significantly greater fidgeting or crying, and increased motor activity. The results of this study advice to apply complementary treatment therapy because its affect in improve clinical outcome. Nursing staff can use complementary treatment to promote the infant's capability to respond positively to his environment and to provide developmental support for healthy premature infants
The concept of Intravascular Technology is an advanced stage of the Medical vascular diseases therapy due to the easy usage by surgeon and the little rescue it involves on patients comparing to the traditional surgery. In this study, we have discu ssed one of the most modern methods of the Treatment of the Aneurysm of the Abdominal Aorta using the internal prosthesis through the artery. This has been achieved via the femoral artery. We also identified the prosthesis patterns and the used methods to get through those arteries as well as identifying the main indications and the importance of selecting the suitable patients regarding their age and health status. We also carried out a comparison among many International studies involving the development and usage of this technology worldwide. Indeed this therapy involves high material cost but the results prove its importance in rescuing many patients' lives that are classified to be in high rescue within traditional surgery.
Our study included (84) patients: 86 cases suffering from chronic osteomyelitis: various causes, location and degrees. All patients operated: after curettage of necrotic and infected tissues; system of continuous irrigation with antibiotics was in serted to the infected zone; all cases were followed up for 1 year. 86% of positive results were obtained and results were bad in 14% of cases> The high positive results (86%) confirm high effect of continuous irrigation with antibiotics as a good method for chronic osteomyelitis treatment, because this method allows delivery of suitable antibiotics in high concentration into the infected area, which is enough to kill microbes and allows to obtain best results.
Malignancy is the second most common reason of death in most countries. Diagnosis of thyroid cancers is one of the most difficult medical problems. Therefore, it important to use diagnosing methods that bring about quick results, are less costly, and prevent errors based on personal factors. An example of such new methods is the use of automated spectral imaging, which gives more information about the structure of tissue, through the formation of fingerprint histological diagnosis used in the automated machine. This study included 25 cancer cases and 26 specimens of non-malignant thyroid or normal. The credibility of method is reflected in the high rates of correct diagnosis in cancer samples (TP) = 92% and the negative result in sections of non-malignant (FN) = 96%. This method represents the use of automation technologies and artificial intelligence to facilitate and speed up the diagnosis of cancers and can be used to diagnose other organs and other tissues.
This is s retrospective analytic study of 27 cases of esophagojejunal anastomotic leakage after gastrectomy for gastric cancer during the period 1\1\1997 -1\1\2014 at AL Assad University Hospital, Lattakia, Syria. The most common risk factors of lea kage were: factors related to the patient: (age, sex, hemoglobin level, total protein level, and albumin level); factors related to surgical resection: (combined resection of other organs, mechanical and manual esophago-jejunostomy) and factors related to the tumor: (tumor stage, tumor location, and ends of anastomosis free of tumor)
Bone healing is a complicated biological mechanism that is affected by many hormonal, nutritional, and hemal factors. The term Biomechanical theory of bone healing is a concept that is created by us and is used for the first time to identify and stud y the influence of mechanical rules on the bone tissue so we can study and imitate its mechanical response depending on the rules of balance and movement. We ensure that bone healing is just adaptation to auto bone forming mechanism in the surrounding mechanical site. The term is more comprehensive and accurate than the bio-compression term which was used before; and all of those are confirming the criteria to evaluate the efficacy of fixators used in orthopedic surgery.
This study included 502 children between 0,5-15 years old. They were all subjected to duodenal biobsy for several reasons, and underwent investigations; Hb, MCV, MCH, MCHC and RDW. The prevalence of celiac disease among anemic children was higher than nonanemic patients (36,04% vs 12,14%). The mean duration of compliance was higher in both anemic children and celiac patients than in comparing groups .The mean levels of Hb,MCV,MCH and MCHC were lower in celiac group, while RDW was higher. Anemia was the most common presentation of celiac disease and it was seen in 77% among celiac children, while failure to thrive was detected in 43% of celiac group. Clinicians should consider celiac disease as a possible cause of anemia in all subjects with unexplained or refractory anemia
This study included 198 patients who were divided into groups according the clinical severity of acne: mild (30.30%), moderate (44.44%), severe acne (25.25%). We chose 50 persons who did not have acne and depended on them as a control group. Our s tudy showed the correlation between high and frequent consumption of certain food stuff (milk, dairy products, fried food, sweets and food with a high content of sugars, chocolate) and the increase in the risk of occurrence acne. We could not prove the existence of a relationship between frequent intake of (eggs, fatty food, nuts) and the incidence of the disease. But the study showed that increased intake of each of the (dairy products, eggs, sweets, sugars, and food high in fat and fried) may be exacerbating factors the disease, because increased consumption was accompanied by more severe cases of the disease. But we did not notice this link with chocolate and nuts. Our study also showed the importance of the high consumption of each (fruit, vegetables, fish and marine products) as a prevention of occurrence acne, and the lack of consumption increase the probability of appearance the disease
