This study was executed at Al Assad hospital, Lattakia . is a retrospective study of ovarian mass patients who had been accepted in the department of gynecology during the period between 1/1/2009 and 31/12/2013 .The aim was to study age distribution of benign and malignant tumors , and to study the relation between Ca125 and pre/postmenopausal benign and malignant tumors. The study included 148 patients . The patients' ages ranged between 13-78 years , and the majority of benign tumors occurred in the age group 21- 40 years and the majority of malignant tumors occurred in the age group 51- 60 years . The commonest tumors were epithelial in origin followed by the germ cell tumors followed by sex cord stromal tumors and metastatic tumors. In benign tumorsCa125>=35u/ml was more frequently with endometriosis followed by serous tumors . and in malignant tumors was more frequently with serous tumors followed by mucinous tumors. The highest sensitivity of ca125 level was in prediction postmenopausal benign tumors but with low specificity followed by prediction postmenopausal malignant tumors with high specificity. The quality of the test was higher in postmenopausal benign/malignant tumors compared to premenopausal tumors
A total of 30 water samples and 45 infected fish (carp, Cyprinus carpio) were collected from freshwater fish farm (Dam of 16 Tishreen-Lattakia) and analysed bacteriological. Macroscopic examinations of infected fish had showed the presence of haem orrhagic skin lesions with brown or red spots throughout their skin. A total of 64 Aeromonas strains were isolated. The Aeromonas isolates were distributed as follows: Aeromonas hydrophila (34, 53%), A. caviae (16, 25%), A. sobria (9, 14%) and (5, 8%) of unidentified aeromonads. Collectively, Aeromonas spp. are considered as opportunistic causative agents of human gastroenteritis and other infections. Antibiotic susceptibility tests were carried on all strains of isolated Aeromonas spp. using twenty different antibiotics by agar disk diffusion method.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is still one of the most important health problems in Syria which witnessed increasing the numbers of cutnaneous leishmaniasis reported, especially during the crisis ,Also the direct microscopic examination of Giemsa-stained scrapings of lesions is still a suitable method for diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis due to the low cost, ease of performance, speed, and lack of a need for sophisticated laboratory equipment.
We performed this study aimed to compare the sensitivity of parasite detection by microscopic examination in samples collected by conventional technique and samples collected after local anesthetic with lidocaine and adrenaline of the same lesions in patients with suspected leishmaniasis.
