Objective:
Evaluate sensitivity and specificity of nitrite test to urine culture(gold standard) for
diagnosing urinary tract infection in patients with sickle cell anemia with urinary
symptoms and signs.
Methods:
The study sample included 79 chi
ldren aged 2 to 14 years with SCA presenting with
fever (temperature >38°C),abdominal pain, urgency, dysuria or increased urinary
frequency who referral to the general pediatric clinic and the children's ambulance
department in Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia during( 2016-2017).
Midstream urine specimen was collected from children. Samples were subjected to nitrite
test, culture and sensitivity.
Results :
There was significant bacteriuria in 17 (21.5%) children with SCA. A positive test
for nitrite was obtained in 12 of the 17(70.5%) children. The nitrite test has a specificity of
95.2% in detecting bacteriuria, a sensitivity of 70.6%, a positive predictive value of 80%
and a negative predictive value of 92%. A positive nitrite test was significantly associated
with bacteriuria, while a negative test was also significantly associated with an absence of
bacteriuria.
Violence is clear in the story works of Zakarayya Tamer. It signifies most of his
works forming a chracteristict that distinguishes his own works from other written works
in this age and he proved himself a popular different writer who has his way
stating with
cursing and ending in crime regadless to his issues concerning (family, street, power) even
if they are different if we think of circumastances which lead to this colour of writing. In
this world the scenes of troublesome, fighting, raping and killing.
Thus violence signifies this world in which it is difficult to live out of desire to
blood by killing in the most terrified way seprating heads. This describes his way of
revealing the disasterous sort of writing away from the causes of these problematic affairs
which go deeper than what we are expecting. This is what the search is trying to deal with
and focus.
Pancytopenia is defined by reduction of all three formed elements of blood below the
normal reference . It may be manifestation of a wide variety of disorders , yet there exist
few published assessments of the frequencies of various etiologies , an
d these frequencies
exhibit substantial geographic variation . This study was carried out to investigate for and
to identify the causes of pancytopenia , to find out the frequency of different causes , to
determine the incidence of pancytopenia in relation to sex and age and to compare our
findings with those of other similar studies in different countries .This was a prospective
study conducted in Al-Asad and Tishreen academic hospitals in Lattakia city , Syria , ovar
a period of one year . A total of 113 patients with the diagnosis of pancytopenia were
enrolled in the study All patients underwent a detailed medical history and full physical
examination followed by blood sampling for the investigations i.e. complete blood count
with peripheral film , erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( ESR ) , liver function test , PT ,
HBsAg and Anti- HCV , ultrasonography of abdomen . All patients underwent bone
marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy for some patients. A definite female
preponderance was observed , 59 were female and 54 were male. The majority of cases
were encountered in the age group of more than sixty years old .Infiltration disorders were
the commonest cause that was observed in 38.1% followed by infections in 22.1% ,
megaloblastic anemia 12.4% , myelodysplasia 11.5%, aplastic anemia 7.1% ,
myelofibrosis 3.5% , hypersplenism 3.5% and systemic disorders 1.8% Detailed clinical
history and meticulous physical examination along with baseline hematological
investigations provide good information and help in systematic planning of further
investigations to diagnose pancytopenia's cause.
Objective: Breath holding spells is a common case in children aged 5months to 6
years, and often misinterpreted with epileptic seizures.we did clinical and epidemiological
assessment for BHS.We documented the relation between sex, age, familial his
tory and the
episodes nature blue, pale or mixed.
Materials & Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which a total of 50
children
with BHS, admitted to the out patient neuropediatric clinic 2013-2014. We took full
medical history and did the investigations to eliminate the differential diagnosis.
Results:Most patient were 7-24 month, we noticed parental consanguinity 87% and
familial history in 56%.The spells were cyanotic 70%. Anger and pain were the more
frequent risk factors 64%,60%.Anemia found in 58% of patient.Half of the patient have
socioeconomic problems. And most of them from nuclear family 66%.
Conclusion:The study mentioned the types of spells and the risk factors and the
importance of look for anemia.
The concept of Intravascular Technology is an advanced stage of the Medical vascular diseases therapy due to the easy usage by surgeon and the little rescue it involves on patients comparing to the traditional surgery.
In this study, we have discu
ssed one of the most modern methods of the Treatment of the Aneurysm of the Abdominal Aorta using the internal prosthesis through the artery. This has been achieved via the femoral artery. We also identified the prosthesis patterns and the used methods to get through those arteries as well as identifying the main indications and the importance of selecting the suitable patients regarding their age and health status.
We also carried out a comparison among many International studies involving the development and usage of this technology worldwide.
Indeed this therapy involves high material cost but the results prove its importance in rescuing many patients' lives that are classified to be in high rescue within traditional surgery.
This study included 502 children between 0,5-15 years old. They were all subjected to duodenal biobsy for several reasons, and underwent investigations; Hb, MCV, MCH, MCHC and RDW.
The prevalence of celiac disease among anemic children was higher
than nonanemic patients (36,04% vs 12,14%). The mean duration of compliance was higher in both anemic children and celiac patients than in comparing groups .The mean levels of Hb,MCV,MCH and MCHC were lower in celiac group, while RDW was higher. Anemia was the most common presentation of celiac disease and it was seen in 77% among celiac children, while failure to thrive was detected in 43% of celiac group. Clinicians should consider celiac disease as a possible cause of anemia in all subjects with unexplained or refractory anemia
The study included 143 children from 214 newborn with high umbilical cord blood IgE (UC – IgE) at birth: more than 0.5 international unit per ml. We followed up these children from birth for 8 years.
We found positive atopic familial history by 51.7
% from study samples, against negative history by 48.3% .
During control duration atopic diseases were developed by 76.22 % of children with high UC – IgE, against 23.8 % without atopic diseases.
These children with atopic different disorders suffered from allergic rhinitis 19.6 % , allergic skin disorders (eczema, urticaria) 25.2 % and asthma 31.5% .
The rate of atopic diseases development was 51.7% in children with high UC-IgE, and positive history together, while only 24.5 % in children with high UC-IgE with negative familial history.
Extracranial carotid artery aneurysm (ECAA) is extremely rare, accounting for only 0.4-4% of all
peripheral artery aneurysms. Sir Astley Cooper is credited with the first successful operation for ECAA in
1808.
These aneurysms are of interest becau
se they have diverse etiologies and present diagnostic and
therapeutic challenges. The symptoms of ECAAs vary according to their location, size, and etiology. The
presentation of such aneurysms may vary from an asymptomatic mass in the neck to the development of a
permanent neurological deficit as a consequence of micro emboli arising from within the aneurysmal sac.
Although most carotid artery aneurysms are caused by atherosclerosis, other common causes include
trauma and infection.
Carotid artery aneurysms are usually diagnosed by means of ultrasonographic scanning. Additional
diagnostic testing -by computed tomographic angiography, or magnetic resonance imaging- can lead to
more accurate information on the aneurysm’s size and its relationship to surrounding structures.
We herein report an extra cranial carotid artery aneurysm detected in a 46 years old patient with
complaint of neurologic Symptoms. Because aneurysm located in the distal ICA, the treatment involved
stent graft deployment. There has been no complications noted during the 10 months follow up after
treatment.
In conclusion, Extra Cranial Carotid Artery Aneurysm is a rare condition and has high rate of
complication with conservative approach.
Atherosclerosis and infectious diseases are the most common cause. Ultrasonography, computerized
tomography, and arteriography are used to make the diagnosis and treatment is achieved by
surgery or percutaneous techniques.
We herein report a SMA a
neurysm detected in a 39 years old patient with complaint of abdominal pain.
The surgical treatment involved the aneurysm ligation and revascularization with greater saphenous vein
interposition graft.
