هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد العوامل المؤثرة في معدلات وفيات الأطفال الرضع وتركز بشكل خاص على متغيرات الإنفاق الصحي. تشمل عينة الدراسة 160 بلداً و تشمل الدراسة المدة الزمنية 1990 - 2000 . قُسمت بيانات الإنفاق الصحي إلى قسمين: إنفاق حكومي و إنفاق خاص؛ كذلك قُسمت بلدان العينة إلى مجموعتين، تضم الأولى البلدان النامية، و تضم الثانية البلدان المتقدمة.
