The ISO/IEC17025 International Standard for Quality and
competence Assurance for ISO/IEC Test and Calibration
Laboratories have been previously known as the ISO Guide 25, but
the current standard is ISO /IEC 17025: 2005.
This study investigates the problems and difficulties that
Syrian EFL undergraduate students face in learning English idioms.
The study aims to examine the students' competence in English
idiomatic expressions and their ability to predict their me
anings in
different contexts based on their first language transfer, and
whether there is a significant difference between the participants'
productive and receptive knowledge of idioms.
The ultimate goal of this study is to enhance the cultural competence of the Syrian
students at both the school and university phases throughout the teaching of English. The
first part of this study provides what many researchers think about the ro
les of the textbook
and the teacher in strengthening the relationship between the learner and his/her own
culture and/or the other cultures including the target culture. In the second part of this
study, an analysis from a cultural perspective of the Syrian context is provided. This
analysis focuses on the English language textbooks used at the Syrian schools and at
Tishreen university. Then it moves to both the Syrian teachers and leaners. The last part of
this study gives some suggestions that could be helpful in strengthening the cultural
awareness in the Syrian educational system.
This research aims to show the importance of ensuring the
competence of all who operate specific equipment, perform tests
and/or calibrations, evaluate results, and sign test reports and
calibration certificates.
This piece of research endeavours to explain why translator's competence is not
homogeneously distributed among linguistically acculturated members of society. It
transpires that the cross-cultural communication skills possessed by a translator are
not
often born or merely characteristics of his natural ability. Professional translation is an
evolved natural translation. Undoubtedly, it is training, deepened expertise, and constant
upgraded and updated cognizance of the technicalities and strategies of translation that
qualify a translator to overcome the ever arising problems of translation. The cognitive
activity of translator's communicative competence underlies his professionalism
concerning the issues of invisibility, interference, creative restructuring process of
problem-solving and decision-making. Quite contrasted to translator as transmitter,
accumulative malleable communicative competence creates the translator who is a genuine
cultural mediator.
This research aims at studying fixed phrases that belong to the
language store and that are recalled whenever needed without any change
in the structure. These phrases are similar to proverbs and have firm uses
in language i.e, they cannot be crea
tively produced, because they do not
follow the competence.
This subject, if studied widely, will need a lot of effort and time.
Thus the study focuses only on fixed phrases relative to objects. The
study reveals that this choice has led to many types of evaluation of the
case itself.
The study found the direct object and the unrestricted object was the
richest with such phrases, and finally it explained this phenomena using
an analytical method.
