The aim of this study is to highlight some of the soil characteristics in the area of Daher Aljabal (Sowaida), in particular, the morphological, physical, chemical, and fertility aspects. To achieve these objectives, five soil profiles were selected on a toposequence, the profiles were described and bulk samples were systematically collected. The characterization of the studied soils reveals that: -The soils area formed from the original basaltic parent materials, and the topographical position plays a prominent role in the development and depth of the soil profiles, and the differences in particle size distribution.

This study aimed to describe the water erosion modeling in Daher Aljabal and its surrounding areas in Al-Sowaida Governorate based on GIA and RS. The water erosion risk map was obtained by applying GIS model developed on the basis of ten factors i nfluencing the erosion process. GIS layers were built for every factor. The weights for all factors were added together. Based on sum of these factors, water erosion was divided into six erosion risk levels. Results showed that 12% of the study area was classified in levels 5 and 6, which reflect high and very high water erosion risks. Land topography was the main factor in water soil erosion. Terraces are effective ways to decrease the water soil erodability. Results also showed that GIS and RS were powerful tools in water erosion risk assessment mapping.
The aim of this study was to determine some physical, chemical properties and microbiological density (fungi –bacteria) of a Pine forest soil in the coastal region (Mehwarti forest, Banias), where Pinus brutia is the main dominant plant. Three soi l profiles were carried out and their morphological characteristics were determined, the thickness of accumulated organic residues and GPS data were also recorded. For physical and chemical analysis, samples from each profile horizon were taken and air- dried, whereas for the microbial diversity analysis, samples were taken twice in autumn and spring, and transported and stored at 4C. The results showed that the studied soil belongs to Alfisol Order with A -Bt – C profile types. Our results also showed that the soil depth was (85-100cm) and the texture was clay with a high porosity in all studied soil horizons. The content of calcium carbonate in the studied horizons was closely similar and increased with soil depth, whereas the pH ranged between 6.8 and 7.9. The results indicated that the organic matter decreased significantly with soil depth that affected the microorganisms density which behave in the same manner. This decreas was very clear in the first horizon especially in spring.
To carry out this study, 12 soil profiles were selected and prepared, and soil samples were collected from the different horizons (surface, subsurface, and C horizon) in each profile. The results of the analyzed samples indicate that, topographica l factors plays an important role in determining some feature, such as, the depth of the profile, texture, distribution of CaCO3 and the process of swelling and the shrinking. Concerning the soil fertility, the study showed that the soil content of microelements is ranging between moderate to low, thus may be related to the mineralogical composition of the parent material, weathering status, and to the use of these elements by the plants during the long lasting exploitation of these soil without any restitution of these element. The results indicate as well, the decrease of these elements with decreasing elevation, i.e from the slop to the plain, this probably due to the relation between the leaching process and topographical position, and to lesser extend to the (pH) of the soil.
This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of soils developed on volcanic ash in an area with a Mediterranean soil moisture regime to determine the presence or absence of amorphous minerals in these soils.
Husbandry of the medicinal and aromatic plants in general and “Rosemary” in particular is considered of the alternative economical husbandry that flourished recently in Syria due to the availability of the natural and environmental conditions there to; in addition to the good economical yield thereof. Interest, encouragement, development, and expansion of such husbandry are considered of the most important targets set for the future strategy of agricultural development in Syria. This Research has targeted to the realization of the following purposes : 1- Analysis of the costs of Rosemary production in Lattakia Governorate. 2- The economical evaluation for Rosemary production in Lattakia Governorate. The research concluded to the following: 1) The achieved annual net profit of one dunum planted with Rosemary in Lattakia Governorate has amounted to SYP /200799.48/. 2) The farming revenue of one dunum planted with Rosemary in Lattakia Governorate has amounted to SYP /206901.84/. 3) The total Economical Feasibility from Rosemary husbandry in Lattakia Governorate has amounted to 3,02
