Poor design is a major factor in reducing the overall performance of construction projects as well as being directly responsible for many projects cost overrun, delay and being plagued with rework, variations and disputation. This research discusses the main factors affecting Design Quality in the Construction Industry in Syria. The result is based on a number of interviews and questionnaire surveys involving 54 designers, contractors and construction professionals. The survey identified 45 different factors classified in categories related to designer, management of the design process, owner and design documents. The severity of those factors was measured by the level of importance and was ranked according to the importance index. It was concluded that, insufficient overall design time, method of selecting the designer based on the lowest price offer, lack of documentation and changes client’s requirements were the most important factors. The results show that designers and contractors have different perceptions of the quality of design factors. The aim of this study is to assist all construction parties to plan effectively before starting a project during the design phase in order to minimize problems and eliminate extra costs needed to complete the defective design. Finally, some recommendations were made in order to improve the design quality in the construction industry.

Research summary
Critical review

Because of the increasing need to improve quality in construction projects, it is necessary to reduce and prevent reworks, and that is by understanding their roots and recognizing their causes. So this research studies reworking on local projects (Sy rian buildings) in terms of causes and classifications. Information was collected from questionnaire that identified some variables (100 variables) contributing to reworking. These variables were categorized according to seven main headings: human, coordination and communication, technical and engineering, owner, project management, contract, and design. Responses were further condensed using factor analysis to group the variables into basic factors. This study revealed that the sources of reworks included inexperienced personnel, projects executions after a long time of studying, a short period given by owner, poor total project management, inadequate study for project before bidding, and separation between design and executing. Finally, this research recommended that a total commitment to quality management policy applications would lead to a reduction in reworks on Syrian construction projects.
This study aimed to examine the extent of disclosure in the annual reports of Syrian private banks for the financial year 2015. The level and extent of disclosure was examined by applying the disclosure index on the annual reports. Four dependent variable (size, profitability, financial leverage and allowance) were examined to know their effect and relationship with the level of disclosure.
This paper aims to identify the most important internal factors may effect on profitability of Syrian private banks during the period (2009-2015). To achieve the objective of the study, Researcher study the dependent factor profitability measured by return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE), and the following independent factors (Bank size, Debt ratio, owner's equity, Liquidity, Net interest, and provision of credit facilities to credit facilities ratio).
Construction projects are subject to risks and uncertainties which affect project targets (cost, time, quality and safety). This paper reviews risks and their effects on construction projects in Syria, and it aims to develop risk management framew ork. In this work, risks in construction projects have been defined based on the literature review and interviews of some experts in the construction field. A questionnaire was designed to define the probability of risk occurrence and their effects, also to define the level of their effects by multiplying the probability occurrence with the effects. Another questionnaire was designed to define the extent of the effects of the most important risks on each target of the project, and to specify the procedures applied as a response to the risks. The results of this research revealed that "the Inflation, price changes" and "the difference between contracted quantities and actual quantities " are seen as the most important risk, where the studied risks in this work affect the schedule more than any other project targets. Also the results showed that avoiding the risks at the construction stage is the most used action.
This study aimed at identifying the best indicators representing economic factors using Factor Analysis, as well as developing a mathematical model linking principal components which represent both the economic factors and consumer spending in Syri a using Multi-linear regression analysis. A descriptive analytical approach is used in this study. The study results from Factor Analysis show that there are three principal components which best represent the economic factors. The first component includes: the number of workforce working for free, the number of paid workforce, consumer price index, the average annual GDP per capita. The second component includes: interest rate, self-employed workforce. The third component includes the number of employers. A mathematical model is developed to link the above three components of the economic factors and the total monthly household spending average in Syria during ( 2000-2010).
