The aim of this study is to collect more information about
Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) in Syria due to it being one of the
most common causes of preventable mental retardation if detected
at early stage and treatment is preventable, and to the
absence of any
published statistics regarding it in our country, and to emphasize on
the necessity of applying a mandatory newborn screening program
for early diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism to improvement of
child’s life, by investigating the adequacy of the clinical
determination the physician's experience to get an early diagnosis.
Fifteen Shami cows available in Dier-Al-Hajar Station for improving Shami
Cattle were used during 2009-2010 to evaluate the ovarian response of cows for
gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) or human chorionic gonadotropin
(hCG) injected on day 5
of the estrus cycle during which dominant follicle is
growing in the first follicular wave. Animals were divided randomly into three
groups of five cows. Group 1 was left as a control and received no treatment
while Groups 2 and 3 received on day 5 of the estrous cycle a single i.m.
injection of 8 ?g of a GnRH agonist (Buserelin) and 3000 IU hCG, respectively.
Transrectal ovarian ultrasonography was performed daily to monitor ovarian
follicular dynamics and corpus luteum.
Semi-wooden cuttings of two - jujuba cultivars were vegetitirely propagated
under greenhouse conditions, by using different concentrations of Indole
butyric acid (IBA), at Hanadi Research Station, Lattakia.
The rooting percentage reached 71.3% aft
er two months for the Ziziphus
jujube mill, and 83.3% for the Ziziphus jujube tayan tsizao, when they were
treated with 4000 mg/L of (IBA) for five seconds while the rooting percentage
was zero for the non-treated cuttings (Control) .
This study was carried out on three rootstocks of Crataegus monogyna Jacq.
With one seed containing fruit C.oxycantha L. with three seeds as well as C.
azaraolus Borkh, to identify the best method of Crataegus propagation.
The hardwood cuttings of
C.azarolus Borkh rooted in a IBA solution (4ooo
ppm)showed the highest rooting percentage 20% when grown in sand as well as
peat moss containing fermented arganic manure media.
There is considerable evidence supporting the role of gonadotrophins and
progesterone on follicular growth and maturation and functional maintenance
of the ovary in the hen. Recently, however, there are ever-expanding list of
factors may be involv
ed in establishing follicular growth and ovulation
currently including germinal disc region, growth factors, macrophages,
plasminogen activator, ornithine decarboxylase, inhibin, activin, follistatin,
relaxine, arginin vasotosin, oxytocin, prostaglandines, vasoactive intestinal
peptide, and their interactions.
The ovary of a laying hen contains follicles in the rapid growth phase
which have advanced from a pool of follicles in the resting stage of about
٦-٨ mm in diameter. Little is known about mechanisms regulating follicular
transformation from the re
sting stage to the rapid growth phase. One potential
regulator of this transformation may be Follicle Stimulating Hormone
(FSH). In addition, there are accumulating results indicating that a negative
relationship between inhibin and FSH may be existed.
Jasminum sambac, or Arabian jasmine is one of the most important
Jasminum species in perfume industry. It is an ornamental evergreen erect
shrub. Flowering date starts from the early May till the end of October. Syrian
climate is very suitable for
the growth and the flowering of the shrub, therefore
the study was carried aut to investigate the effect of some major factors on
rooting of semi-hard wood cuttings.
