204 samples were collected from various body samples during the year 2016. These 204 samples distributed as follows: 133 from urine , 37 swabs of wounds and burns, 10 swabs from the ear and pharynx, 12 from feces, 8 from CSF, 4 from blood. This s tudy distinctly showed that gram negative bacilli were the most isolates 136 (67%) while 68 isolates (33%) were gram positive bacteria . E. coli dominated (39.68%) of the total gram negative bacilli. This study distinctly showed an increase in the ratio of E. coli resistance to one or more types of antibiotics , we found that E. coli resistance to all antibiotics except specific and expensive antibiotics, and we found that its complete resistance to the second ,third and fourth generation of cephalosporins , resistance to specific and antibiotics such as Imipenem.
Two hundred and thirty-six E. coli isolates n=236 were collected. Antibiotic susceptibility and ESBL production were studied by disc diffusion and DDST (double disk synergy tests) according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines (CLSI) and EUCAST for ESBL. 75 (32%)of total isolates demonstrated MDR (multi drug resistance),62 of resistant bacteria (26% of total) were determined as ESBL producers. In conclusion, we recommend adding this standard, cheap ESBL detection method to the routine microbial susceptibility tests run in Syrian hospitals in order to determine and isolate the sources of MDR infections and do some effort to contain and eliminate those strains.
Spices are becoming increasingly important world-wide due to their effectiveness as natural antibiotics, the thing that makes the world nowadays tend to use spices instead of chemical drugs. However, this doesn’t mean they are free of some dangerous pathogens such as Klebsiella spp. which can lead to a wide range of illnesses, notably pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and bacteremia. Although we don’t know the natural habitat of this bacterium we find that it thrives in herbs and spices, concluding thus that plants may be its natural habitat. The primary isolation of this bacterium was based first on its growth on general media and then isolation on selective media. Colonies of the microorganisms were counted on different media then Klebsiella was isolated from a selective media. The isolated colonies of Klebsiella were circular, dome-shaped, 3-4 mm in diameter, with mucoid sticky edges, and surrounded by capsule. After this we chose the typical colony and identified it using Polymerase chain reaction PCR and biochemical tests. Our results showed that 32% of examined specimen contained Klebsiella spp.
The aim of this research was detection Listeria in chopped prepared to consumption beef. (100) samples were collected randomly from Damascus and its countryside, Kenitra and Sweida stores and slaughterhouses, from February (2015) to February (2016).
Twenty plant and animal food samples were collected from different commercial stores. These samples were placed in a sterilezed plastic bags not to be polluted and were moved to the laboratory in special thermal containers to be tested. The solid samples were processed in the Digester to study each sample separately , while the liquid samples were tested immediately after being diluted. After that they were studied with biochemical tests to identify the type of germ that existed.
