The aim of this study was to investigate knowledge of farmers on postharvest treatment in al-Hussainiah district, in order to determine the factors affecting this knowledge. A pre-test questionnaire used for data collection during January 2002 when 50 framers (35% of population) were interviewed. Frequencies, percentage Pearsonian correlation were used for data presentation and analysis. The result could be summarized as following: The degree of knowledge of farmers about the post-harvest processing was weak. There were significant differences (p<0.01) between the degree of knowledge of farmers about post-harvest processing and the following factors: age, social status, agricultural experience, size of agricultural land used, other occupation, percentage of agricultural reliance, extension agent in area, number of extension agent visits to farmers, source of information, perceptive production problems, and training needs in agricultural marketing. There was a significant difference (p<0.05) between the degree of knowledge of farmers about post-harvest processing and educational status.

The study was carried out on a sample of 25 extension agents in Wady Zabied area attending a post-harvest training program. Percentages, Frequencies, and T test were used for the analysis and presentation of results , which can be summarized as fo llows : 1 – The trainees post-harvest process knowledge was improved significantly following the training program. This was shown by increasing correct answers in the post-harvest test by 44% - 66.7% (21.6 % on an average). 2 – There is a statistically significant relationship at (prob. 0.01 ) between the trainees knowledge at pre -and post test in the filed of post-harvest, fruit treatment, translocation, grading, and cold storage
This research aimed to study the natural regeneration of Pinus brutia in Qurdaha region, and to determine the most important factors affecting the regeneration. 42 circular samples were taken, the area of each sample was 400m2. The following measur ements were taken: geographic coordinates of each sample's centre, altitude, aspect, the slope, forest litter thickness, the proportion of gravels, stones and rocks, tree, bushes and herb cover. Forest inventories were achieved using Braun-Blanquet method. Which, the number of sample seedlings, the seedling height, seedling diameter, the seedling age, burning trees and alive trees of Pinus brutia were registered. The results showed a significant negative effect of slope and a significant positive effect of herb cover, where the percentage of data classification by the model was reached 74.4%, while the Nagelkerke R2value was 37%. The negative effect of the slope comes from increasing the risks of soil erosion and the loss in their nutritional elements. In contrast, the positive effect of herbal coverage is the contribution to reducing the risks of summer drought that can be affect the seedlings.
Four Model Maillard reactions (MRs) have been carried out using Leucine with each of the following Saccharides; aldohexose (glucose, Glc), ketohexose (fructose, Fru), aldopentose (xylose, Xyl) and disaccharide (Lactose, Lac) at 100 °C and for 24hr s. The pH changes with time were monitored during the reactions at different initial reactant ratio. The products of the reactions (MRPs) were then separated by absolute ethanol into low and high molecular weight fractions (LMW & HMW). The four distinct Saccharides–Leucine MRPs were studied by fluorescence and ultraviolet /visible spectrophotometer. The results showed the tendency of Xyl–Leu MRPs to form brown polymers with relatively high reaction rates compared to Fru, Glc and Lac -Leu MRPs respectively. Further characterization of reducing power of the Saccharides – Leu (MRPs) was performed and showed that different Saccharides –LeuHMW (MRPs) had a higher reducing power than LMW ( MRPs).
This study conducted at Deir Al-Hajar Station during the season 2010-2011 to describe the lactation curve of Shami cattle and determine factors affecting its shape compenents. 1120 records of 356 Shami cows collected between 1997 – 2010 were used. Data were subjected to general linear model, and the analysis of variance used to determine the effect of factors. Duncan test was used to compare the means using SAS system (1996) and Incomplete gamma functions were used to estimate the parameters of lactation curve (a, b and on the basis of daily yield of milk. Results indicated that the average values of the gamma parameters were 2.14 ± 0.01 kg for a (beginning of milking ), 0.61 ± 0.02 kg for b (increasing milk production up to peak) and - 0.23± 0.01 kg for c (decreasing milk production from peak to dry). The effect of calving year was significant (p<0.01) on a, and (p<0.05) on b and (p<0.001) on c. The effect of age at calving and sex of calf was significant (p<0.01) on a but non significant on b and c. Season of calving, parity, and interaction between age and parity was not significant on all parameters. It was concluded that improving the productive performance of Shami cattle, requires applying a long term genetic improvement program to select the best herd.
The main objective of this study was to determine factors affecting the farmers decision to use the chemical fertilizer in Al-Hassa area of Saudi Arabia. For this purpose, a questionnaire form was developed and distributed among ٩٠ randomly select ed farmers operating in the study area. Interviews conducted to collect the needed data, means and standard error, percentage, frequency, and simple correlation as well as multiple regressions were used to analyze the data.
