Introduction: Upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy is a safe and widely used procedure for diagnosis and treatment purposes. Endoscopic procedures can be painful and uncomfortable and patient cooperation is very important for a successful result. Anxiety and stress are common problem in patients who have to undergo an invasive medical procedure. Anxiety before upper gastrointestinal endoscopy may have adverse consequences and can sometimes hamper successful completion of the procedure. In routine practice, verbal or written communication is used to inform the patient. Mostly this information is focused on the procedure itself and its complications. Aim: To investigate the effect of showing an informative video or providing verbal group education on anxiety and intra procedural co-operation among the patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Material and methods: sixty gastrointestinal endoscopy patients were randomly assigned to video (20) or verbal information (20) groups or control (20) group. Patients in the video group watched a 7-minute-long video about the necessity of the endoscopic procedure, doctor and patient cooperation, and possible complications, emphasizing the possible feelings the patients might experience. The patients' situational anxiety was measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory’s two scales (STAI-State and STAI-Trait). During the procedure we evaluate the patient's co-operation degree by using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) with the doctors. Conclusions: It can be concluded that information by video helps reduce the anxiety of the patient, increases patient co-operation and the patient is much more readily convinced to undergo another procedure, in cases where a control is needed.

Critical review

This paper explores the legal issues surrounding the co-operation with international tribunals, taking into consideration the fact that successful implementation of the international tribunals and the tribunals of international character rely solely upon the full co-operation of third states with these same tribunals. It is precisely because the work of these tribunals relates to other states, that the co-operation of those states with these tribunals is essential both in investigative procedures and to secure successful prosecutions. Due to the fact that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is the first tribunal of international character in the Middle East, this paper will concentrate on the co-operation of third States with the STL and its judicial governance concerning third states. It will take into consideration how the international legal obligations that have constructed the posture of the STL have impacted upon its judicial relationship as regards third states co-operation. While the Agreement between the United Nations (UN) and Lebanon provides a solid framework for co-operation between the STL and Lebanon, the Security Council Resolution 1757 (2007) is silent as regards the duty of third states to assist the Tribunal. As a result, the STL will be confronted with a variety of obstacles and problems in obtaining co-operation of third states-including Syria- which may seriously impede the functioning and effectiveness of the STL as a whole and undermine its legal capacity. The importance of Syrian co-operation with the STL does not just bear upon the functioning and effectiveness of the legal capacity of the STL; but rather any failure on the part Syrian co-operation could also have serious consequences for Syria itself. Conditional or limited co-operation would benefit Syria in several ways. It would protect Syria from being placed under any threats of the UN issuing resolutions under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to oblige all states to co-operate with the STL. Such resolutions could impact negatively upon Syria as a whole. Any negative impact upon Syria as a result of its failure to co-operate with the STL could include the possibility of the UN imposing economic sanctions or even the threat of interventional force, although the latter may be unlikely but nevertheless may still exist as a possible, albeit extreme, course of action to force Syria to co-operate. The importance of Lebanon to co-operate with the STL is also beneficial for Lebanon. Firstly, Lebanese co-operation will achieve the objective of the STL which is to enable and facilitate the full extent of justice to run its course. This is not just for the benefit of the victims and their families, but also to address and deter the political assassinations and trans-boundary terrorism which has affected Lebanon. Therefore, this article attempts to address the co-operation issues related to the tribunals. As the STL is the first tribunal in the Middle East, it will be this tribunal which will be the subject of detailed study in this paper. This paper will then conclude whether Syria is within its legal remit to choose whether to co-operate with the STL or not or whether it retains the right, as set out in its own Constitution, to try any potential suspects under Syrian law and within the Syrian judicial system.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of teaching method via computer on students’ level of anxiety with respect to the gender, computer experiences, and academic achievement. The sample consisted of 40 students (21 females and 19 m ales) from the Faculty of Physical Education at the University of Jordan. The participants who enrolled in a required undergraduate course of methods of teaching physical education class during the second semester of 2003/2004 were selected purposely. The participants were taught via Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) method for ten weeks.
The aim of the research was to identify the relationship between the two levels of social anxiety and psychological Hardiness among the general secondary school students in Damascus city, and their differences in the levels of social anxiety and psychological Hardiness according to gender and grade. The study sample consisted of (698) male and female students who were randomly selected from the general secondary schools in Damascus. The social anxiety scale (the researcher's preparation) and the mental hardness scale (Maddi & Koshaba, 2001) were applied after verifying their validity and stability.
This study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of premedication with simethicone or N- acetylcysteine (NAC) on enhancing endoscopic visibility in patient undergoing Esophagogastroduodenoscopy. This was a Randomized Double –blind Clinical Trial. The study included 350 children, ranged in age from 6 months to 15 years. patients were randomly allocated into three groups to receive one of the following premedications (: group 1 : Placebo, group 2: N- acetylcysteine, group 3: simehticone) with 10 ml of water at 20 minutes before Esophagogastroduodenoscopy .It was rated the amount of foam and air bubbles ,and divided into four degrees from 0 to3 degree, The scores of foam and air bubbles were compared and the duration of endoscope also compared between the three groups. The amount of foam/air bubbles was significantly lower in the simeticone group compared with the placebo and NAC group (p 0,0001) The duration of endoscopy was shorter in the simeticone group (P 0,0001)
Upper abdominal surgery patients are considered more vulnerable to changes in pulmonary function and therefore to acute decrease in respiratory function. physical treatment techniques play an important role, especially deep breathing exercises and th e use of incentive spirometry device as well as walking, which have an important role in improving pulmonary function. here lies the nursing role in the training of patients to use those technologies and encouraging them toapplyearlypostoperatively. The aims of the study is toassess the effect of implementing nursing policy (deep breathing exercises , the use of incentive spirometer and walking) on respiratory function among upper abdominal surgery patients. The sample comprised 45 patients chosen randomly from thetwogenders who were prepared to upper abdominal surgery in Al-Assad University Hospital,Each patient implemented nursing policy and assessed pulmonary functionby using a spirometer device and measured the degree of arterial blood oxygen saturation by Oxygenation –pulse measurement. We can notice from the results of this study that the implement of nursing policy contributed to the preservation of respiratory function in patients with the two experimental groups , particularly in the experimental group 2, which have the lower decrease in the pulmonary functions values and the degree of arterial blood oxygen saturation .
