We performed this study aimed to compare the sensitivity of parasite detection by microscopic examination in samples collected by conventional technique and samples collected after local anesthetic with lidocaine and adrenaline of the same lesions in patients with suspected leishmaniasis.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is still one of the most important health problems in Syria which witnessed increasing the numbers of cutnaneous leishmaniasis reported, especially during the crisis ,Also the direct microscopic examination of Giemsa-stained scrapings of lesions is still a suitable method for diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis due to the low cost, ease of performance, speed, and lack of a need for sophisticated laboratory equipment.
This study was performed on blood samples of 60 people [21females, 39 males]which have visited the center of leishmaniasis in lattakia city, and their infection with cutaneous leishmaniasis was confirmed. The people were divided into three age gro ups where each group contained 20 patients, the first group [10-18 years,3females and 17males], the second group [19-30 years,8 females,12males],and the third group [31- 50years,10 females and 10males]. The following tests were evaluated to each blood sample: total white blood cell count, differential white blood cells count, hematocrit test, and blood group type test.
The study aims to determine the Seroprevalence of anti-H. pylori antibodies in patients with peptic complaints using indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), and compare serology with histological examination of biopsies from upper gastrointestinal e ndoscopy to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of this assay. The Study sample included 120 participants divided into two groups: 69 patients with peptic complaints who underwent upper GI endoscopy in Al-Assad Hospital in Lattakia (average age 47 years old), and 51 volunteers without peptic complaints (average age 33 years old). The study was conducted in the period between February 2011 and March 2012. Indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) was used to study the seroprevalence of anti-H. pylori antibodies and fluorescence intensity in the two groups. The results showed that 63 of the patients group (91.3%) and 39 of volunteers (76.47%) are anti-H. pylori antibodies positive. The comparison of serology with histological examination of biopsies showed a sensitivity and specificity of 78% and 80% respectively in the presence of moderate and strong degree of fluorescence. The results reveal the importance of IFA as a non-invasive screening test besides the endoscopy, and the utility of this technique for the epidemiologic studies in a local setting.
This study evaluates the efficacy and the safety of local anaesthesia with lidocaine spray to avoid the need for additional or general anaesthesia and reducing pain during out-patient hysteroscopy. This study evaluates also the efficacy and the sa fety of local anaesthesia with paracervical injection of lidocaine and giving of midazolam intravenously during out-patient culdoscopy. Design: Prospective study between 01.03.1999 and 30.06.1999. Patients: 62 patients underwent out-patient hysteroscopy clinic between 01.03.1999 and 30.06.1999. Culdoscopy performed in 10 of them as infertility-workup. Setting: Out-patient hysteroscopy clinic in the University Hospital of Vienna.
Purpose: to assess the efficiency of topical anesthesia in phacoemulsification with IOL implantation. Department of Ophthalmology, Muasaa Hospital. The research was carried on 56 eyes of 48 patients.
