كان مولانا يقيم كبير وزن للطب الظاهري المدرسي كما يظهر في آثاره، و كانت
لديه معرفة كافية بالاعتلالات الجسدية و أعراضها و علاجاتها، و غالباً ماكان يستخدم هذه المعلومات لبيان التجارب الروحية و الأمور المعنوية .
و يعد مولانا – كطائفة من العلماء القدامى - العلم البحثي مأخوذاً من وحي
الأنبياء كعلم الطب و النجوم. و يذكر في المثنوي أفلاطون الطبيب و جالينوس ، و يرى في جالينوس نموذجاً كاملاً للطبيب الجسماني، و يضرب به المثل في الإحاطة بالطب و التبحر في علاج المرضى، و يذكر أن كتبه في الطب و التشريح و الأدوية كانت متداولة بين المسلمين.
Mowlavi gave great significance to external medicine with a great
importance. And as it appears in his books, he had enough knowledge of
the physical sicknesses, its symptoms and its treatments. And mostly he
was using this information for clarifying the spiritual experiences and the
moral matters. And he considered the research science taken from the
prophets inspiration as the medicine and the astronomy, and he speaks in
the Mathnavi about Plateau and Gallinus, and he seas that Gallinus was a
complete model of the physician and in the knowledge of medicine and
the delving into the treatment of patients. It is mentioned that his books in
medicine, the anatomy and the medicines and the treatments and the
preservation of health were known amongst the Muslims. And after
Gallinus Avicena shows a model of the skilled doctor and Mowlavi falls
under his effect strongly in the medical issues. Mowlavi speaks about two
kinds of physicians: Physicians of the body and those of the spirit and he
uses a great amount of medical terms.
