The aim of this study was to study the plant species diversity at Al-Kahaf protected area in A-Sheikh Badr region, Tartous governorate, in terms of functional characteristics of the recorded plant species, its uses. The results can contribute in understanding, and determining the role of those plant species for ecosystem function and local community and help in the management of this protected area. Plant species diversity was studied on three versants; using the intercepted line method; and in the watercourses surrounding Al Kahaf castle. Additional surveys have also been conducted over the whole site. Life forms, dispersal types, and the uses of these species were recorded. The recorded species belong to 53 plant family. Fabaceae was the most represented family (17 species), followed by Asteraceae (12 species), and Lamiaceae (11 species).

Pinus brutia cover 67.87% of AlFronloq protected area, this forest provide habitat for wildlife especially forest birds. The aim of this study is to define bird species that use Pinus brutia forest and their relation to vegetation characteristics.W e listed 63 bird species, 9 of them recorded for first time, 31.8% of species are resident in study area, where raptors presented 15.9%. The study showed positive correlation between species richness and plant richness (R=0.588, P= 0.007). Shrubs layer coverage and richness affected positively bird species richness and density. The study showed also decreasing of bird species richness with Altitude, while raptors richness were increased with Altitude. The dominat species were Coal tit Parus ater, wren Troglodytes troglodytes ,whereas species like Chaffinch Fringilla coelebs, chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita were the most abundant.
The aim of this research was to investigate the changes of vegetation and regeneration of plant species in Kassab forests after 1991 fire. The study area is located in the North western part of Syria in the middle of Al-Baier and Al- Bassit forest s to the North of Latakia. Thirty five plant surveys (Relevé) were carried out in the study area during 2009 according to Braun-Blanquet method included the burned area and the nearby locations of non-burned forest. By comparing the plant surveys (Relevé), results showed good regeneration of most plant species that were in the study area before the fire. Three forms of vegetation were distinguished in the study area: 1 - The areas where dominance is shared between Pinus brutia Ten. and Quercus cerris L. subsp. pseudocerris (Boiss.) Chalabi. 2 - Areas dominated by Pinus brutia Ten. with accompanying species from Eu-Mediterranean zone and supra Mediterranean zone. 3 – Areas where Pinus brutia Ten. and Quercus cerris L. subsp. pseudocerris (Boiss.) Chalabi are partly or completely absent, and dominated by shrubs and grass species.
This research is a field study of the reality of small industrial projects in the industrial area in Tartous. The researcher started a theoretical presentation of the problems facing the small projects. It was adopted in the field study to identify the basic problems and the proposed solutions to the answers of a sample of the owners of these projects.
This study includes a full analysis of climatic, vegetation, and topographical factors in Nabe Matta preserve (Drekish Region – Tartous Governorate – Syria), which is considered as the most important factors affecting forest fires. The data were coll ected for each fire and analyzed by statistical programs (SPSS) and (EXCEL), and the relationship between these multiple factors and the phenomenon of recurrence of fire in one area (fire risk region) was studied. Then the data and the results of the analysis and multi relationship had been studied within the geographic information system software (GIS) to obtain the map of fire risk region, as well as results from topographic maps (1:50.000), aerial photographs (1:25.000), and the needed maps were designed for the study such as (slope map - aspect map - vegetation cover map - infrastructure map - fire risk region map),then places of monitoring towers and centers of rapid intervention in high-risk areas have been proposed for the occurrence of fires. These maps are considered as warning systems and with it we can predict the probability of any fire in the Preserve when the appropriate conditions are provided for it.
This research aimed to evaluate the growth and productivity of planted Pinus pinea in pure stands at "DAHR AL SORANI" forest site. The site is about 50 km north east of Tartous city, which is located in Temperate-Humid Bioclimate Zone. Results sho wed that the stands were not equivalent in growth indicators; this was due to many factors affecting growth like site characteristics and trees density…etc. In spite of the mediocre values of form factor, the volume and mean of annual increment was not influenced. Results revealed that the mean values of tree density was 851 trees/ha and ranged between 350 - 1975 trees/ha, woody volume was averaged at 116.337 m3/ha and ranged between 51.6519 - 215.3635 m3/ha; annual increment had also an average of 4.4548 m3/ha/year and ranged between 1.9866 - 7.9764 m3/ha/year. The study showed a high straightness of pine. Pinus pinea trees had very rarely forked boles.
