The susceptibility of some varieties grown locally of common bean has been evaluated for both pseudomonas savastanoi pv phaseolicola which causes halo blight and xanthomonas axonopodis pv phaseoli which causes common bacterial blight. Five locally cultivated varieties were planted in green house under natural conditions.

Ascochyta blight, which is caused by the fungus Ascochyta fabae f. Sp. Lentis, is considered as a very important fungal disease that infects lentils and cause it damage. The experiment was conducted in ICARDA research station for agricultural exper iments in the orchard area Basha, Jableh, Lattakia in four varieties of lentils that are grown in different parts of Syria, and these varieties are: Idleb 2, Idleb 3, Idleb 4, and municipal red. Artificial infection was performed using a local isolation of the fungus Ascochyta lentis with an average of three times and ten days between each infection and the other. The infectious vaccine adopted a concentration of 105 Båge / ml.
Olive trees are grown in many regions of Syria, especially in wet regions where the olive knot disease (Pseudomonas savastanoi pv.savastanoi ) prevails .Symptoms similar to those found on olive trees have been observed on myrtle shrubs (Myrtus com munis) growing naturally in some olive-grown regions. This study aimed at identifying the pathogen isolated from myrtle plant, and testing the pathogenicity of these isolates on olive trees. Morphological, biochemical and serological tests of bacteria isolated from myrtle showed similarity to those from olive and other hosts. Pathogenicity tests showed that the myrtle isolates were pathogenic on both myrtle and olive trees. Myrtle could be considered as a source of inoculum for the olive knot disease.
This study was conducted at Abo Jarash farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Damascus University In order to determine the response of three local varieties of potato (Sponta, Draja, Diamont) to salinity stress with different concentration of NaCl solutio n (0,50, 100, 150, 200 mM). The results indicated that the existence of a inverse correlation between increased concentrations of salts in the solution and the rate of plant height, leaf area, and the percentage of leaf dry weight, and the proportion K+/ Na+., and the productivity was declined with a proportional rate 22< 32, and 48% for the varieties of Sponta, Draja, Diamont, respectively. Results indicated the existence of reverse relationship between increasing salt concentration in the medium and plant height, Leaf area, dry weight of the leaves and K+/Na+ ration in addition to the decline in the productivity of studied varieties. The results also showed variations in the extent of tolerance between studied varieties to salinity stress where Sponta was the most tolerant, followed by Draja and Diamont was the less tolerant and this was reflected in terms of higher germination and increasing the mean of plant height, Leaf area and dry weight of plant.
Isolation and identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was screened from 15 samples of Syrian oily-soils to determine the ability to produce Lipase enzyme by Cetermide Agar, Tributrin Agar and Brain Heart Broth during 2007-2008 AD. The results sho wed that there were grown colonies with color of green or yellow-green surrounded with different diameter of clear zone in three samples and the identification by Mowasat Hospital revealed that it was Pseudomonas aeruginosa In addition, the results showed that the optimum conditions to produce lipase was 35 Cº with the pH degree of 8 and the time of production of lipase with highest activity of 63.3% was three days in submerged culture during the optimum conditions. These results illustrated the important of this isolates to produce and control lipase for industrial production.
A field trail was conducted at Jeleen Research Station, Dara,a governorate, Syria, during two consecutive growing seasons (2010/ 2011-2011/ 2012), in order to evaluate the role of some cultural practices in improving nitrogen use efficiency and gr ains quality characteristics of four wheat varieties (Acsad1105, Acsad1229, Acsad885 and Acsad901). The experiment was laid according to randomized complete block design-split, with three replicates. Leaf area index, grain starch content and grain yield were significantly higher during the first growing season, in the wheat variety (Acsad901), for the first planting date, and nitrogen rate (200 Kg N. ha1-), when nitrogen fertilizer was added in two splits (1.25, 68.60 %, 1051 g. m-2).
