The effect of elevation and slope exposure on forest vegetation composition in southwestern end of the Anti-Lebanon Mountains was assessed. Species and community parameters; relative density, coverage, frequency, importance value of encountered woody vegetation, richness and similarity indices; were quantified using thirty two line transects covering two altitudinal zones and the four major slope aspects. Furthermore, species density was measured using distance methods.

This environmental research was conducted on the coastal water of Tartous city for the first time to complement previous studies along the Syrian coast. Sampling station were selected based on their different environmental characteristics from each o thers on one hand, and their continuous exposure to the sources of pollution (oil, chemical, organic) on the other hand. It hasbeen implemented13sortiesfreelyduring the study period, which lasted fromSeptember2013untilSeptember2014. during which water samples were collected for analysis and determine the concentration of nutrients in, as vital samples to study and determine the types of phytoplankton, which collected, in addition to conducting field measurements of some properties Physical seawater (temperature, pH, salinity, oxygen dissolved concentration). This study has recorded 160 species of phytoplankton in study sites, distributed as follows: 91 species of Chryssophyta, 50 of Pyrrophyta, 11 of Chlorophyta, and 8 of Cyanophyta, their distribution has differed from one site to another and from month to monthaccordingto the differentiation in the environmental conditions.
This study was carried out during 2015to determine some chemical Composition of the fruit of some distribution phenotypes of Prunus ursina in different regions of Westrens of Syria. six natural distribution sites were determined(Duerbsndiana-Alnab een-Alshohtte- Helata-Btmazah-Wadeheleen), and 35 trees were determined as samples. Fruits were harvested and following parameters were determined: dry matter, total acids (T.A), total soluble solids (T.S.S), and total sugar. Statistical analysis of investigated phenotypes showed that There were differences between dry matter, total soluble solids (T.S.S), and total sugar between two groups. the trees were distributed in two groups (A, B) .The results showed existence of most trees in whole sits, while (J6 and KA6) were distributed in two different sits(Btmazah and Duerbsndiana) .
Yarmouk basin is considered one of the important basin in Syria due to its economical contribution in the total national production of the country. Also water plays a vital role in this effective activity of the economical development, the purpose of this research is to study the pollution in the southwest area inYarmouk basin on three levels: chemical, chemi-toxical and the Bacteriological. The study was done on three different sites which are: the outlet of Almzereeb lake, Zeizoun spring, Daael Al-kadeem well. The results were as follows: The rates of the concentration of both the ammonium and BOD in Zeizoun spring and Al-mzereeb lake high, where they exceeded the allowed limits in the drinking water of Zeizoun spring. But they remained within the allowed rates in the irrigation stander of Al-mzereeb lake, while there wasn’t any remarkable rising for such ions in the well of Daael Al-kadeem.
Drought is a recurrent phenomenon and a normal feature of climate. It is one of the major natural hazards that frequently hits Syria, causing significant damages to ecosystems and social–economic environment, especially agricultural areas. The purpo se of current study is to estimate the degree of severity and the frequency of drought at seasonal and annual timescales in the southern region of Syria by applying the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) on the rainfall data recorded over (1958-2006) in four climatic stations: Damscus, Khrabo, Dara and El-Sweda. The results showed that there were no significant changes or trends in annual winter and spring rainfall at southern region scale. They also showed its frequent exposure to drought. At annual timescale, Damscus and Khrabo stations were distinguished from the others by extreme drought, and Khrabo by severe drought. The season mostly exposed to drought events was spring, followed by winter and autumn seasons. The absence of the evere drought of Dara winter, and the extreme drought of Damscus and Khrabo autumn were also observed.
