In the past, the ship symbolized the marine mechanism that roamed the seas and oceans for the purpose of trade and transportation of people and goods, it has become nowadays in many forms and performs a variety of tasks, which calls for a precise def inition. The research deals with the ship as an important and effective element that has a vital role in international maritime commercial transport operations, which has resulted in It has become the backbone of marine navigation. The research reviews the definition of the ship from the point of view of international convention National legislation and international jurisprudence opinions, in addition to shedding light on the legal and subjective nature of the offshore facility, which It gives it a description of the ship, indicating the types of ships and distinguishing it from other similar marine installations. As research aims to clarify the rights contained on the ship from ownership, mortgage and seizure, while specifying the legal position of the ship in the maritime areas subject to sovereignty. The research reached many results, the most important of which are: 1-There is a contradiction between international conventions, national legislation, and international jurisprudence opinions about defining the concept of a ship. 2-The Jamaica Agreement of 1982 divided the sea into different maritime zones. This division resulted in regulating the legal status of the ship while in these areas. 3-Assuming that the ship is a movable property of a special nature, it has become a place because some of the rights contained in the property, such as mortgage, seizure and insurance, are returned to it.
The under keel clearance (UKC) is considered as one of the most important factor which governs the navigation safety in restricted waterways. However, the notion of safe under keel clearance is directly related to ship sinkage. The recent researche s to evaluate ship sinkage show that it is related to vessel potential energy. The curve of vessel displacement in heave motion as function of potential energy shows that a ship has three equilibrium positions; stable equilibrium position represents steady squat and unstable equilibrium position which can be considered as a virtual bottom for a ship, the third stable equilibrium position does not have any physical signification, since it lies below the bottom. The principal goal of this paper is to develop a mathematical model for vessel motion during acceleration phase by considering several assumptions. Then, analyze the conversion of kinetic energy to potential energy at the unstable equilibrium position during acceleration phase. By taking into account the period during which the vessel accelerates as well as the vessel speed at the end of the acceleration phase. The results show that ship stability could be affected by the oscillations generated at the end of this phase.
The custom was settled that the coastal state had complete sovereignty on its regionalized sea, benthos, interiority of benthos and layers of atmosphere, taking for granted that this sovereignty was restricted by the international community interes ts which known as “the right of innocent passage”. The effectiveness of rules of international law, which was related to regionalized sea, depended on its ability to achieve balance between the interest of coastal state in its sovereignty on regionalized sea and the interest of international community in the navigation across the regionalized sea. In fact, this could be achieved when states were committed to enact legislations, measures and executive procedures which were compatible with international law which could led to the settlement of international relations in this part of the sea.
Many images of sea, sea waves and ships is repeated in al-Jahili poetry; sometimes, such images are formulated partially in one single line of verse or as a quick flicker, if not such those detailed or circumlocutory images; other times, they occur as comprehensive images that embody the poet's collective literary experience, upon which textual symbols are structured in the form of oppositional or substitutive functions and suggestions. This piece of research concludes that such maritime images take place in three contexts: either in the howdahs' or riding camels journeys in which the image of the shiphowdah or ship-camel appears; or, in love poetry, in which the image of the pearl woman appears. Or, they may occur while disclosing the poetical self when highly indulged in rhetoric, semantics and oration, not to mention vainglory, generosity and hospitality speeches. In brief, this research attempts to explain the relationship of such images to the structure of the al-Jahili poem, the poetical self, the human temperament, and his psychological and cultural horizons.
Based on the strategic and economic importance of the Syrian Merchant Fleet, this research paper was prepared to illustrate and analyze the current situation of this fleet under the prevailing circumstances, taking into account the impacts of the lat est world economic crisis on the fleet, as well as the hostile western sanctions and procedures imposed on the fleet units, the researcher discussed the impact of the latest world economic crisis on the world maritime industry with emphasis on the world merchant fleet , global shipping market and on the Syrian Merchant Fleet which like many countries fleets was negatively affected by the crisis, added to this negative impacts those which were caused by the hostile sanctions and procedures imposed by the western countries against the Syrian Merchant Fleet , the researcher asserted that other Syrian economic society sectors should form a crisis management entity, including banks to support the Syrian Merchant fleet, moreover what was recommended of establishing maritime private limited companies as new business entities and grant the separation between ownership and management.
