Background& Objective: This research is carried out to investigate the Anti-inflammatory activity of the alcoholic extract of flower buds of Crataegus laevigata in experimentally-induced arthritis in rats. Materials & Methods: the inflammation was i nduced experimentally by Carrageenan, the standard material that causes non-immune acute inflammation. The size of edema was measured before and after the inducing the inflammation, in control group as well as in group treated by extract and by Diclofenac. The measurements persist until the 4th hour following the injection of Carrageenan. In another set of experiment, the important biomarker, TNF-α, was calibrated in inflammation-induced groups of rats that received extract or Diclofenac and compared with control. Results: The extract significantly reduced the size of edema compared with control and this effect was not less than that of Diclofenac, the standard anti-inflammatory drug. Indeed, the extract lowered the values of TNF-α. Conclusion: The Crataegus laevigata has clear anti-inflammatony effect , but it should be further investigated.
Biodiversity of wild relatives of Cataegus were studied in North-West region of Damascus countryside located between latitudes 33.36 -33.58 N and longitudes 35.58-36.39 E including 7 sites and 21 subsites ranging from Zabadane to Alnabk. Results s howed that the most of the individuals in the search area belonging to C. azarolus and var. aronia and rare individuals ere found to belong to C. monogyna. The study on the level of intraspecific variability showed the presence of of three taxanomic groups, each had been characterized with morphological and environmental qualities. The study also pointed to the where of these species and their different types are located and to the exist of corrlation between environmental factors and morphological variables.
During the last twenty years there was an increased interest to large extent in crowing up the fruitful trees all over the world. That is a natural result of knowing its high feeding value beside its being good source for income. Due to its economical importance, there was variety of searches and studies which approached its farming.
This study was carried out on three rootstocks of Crataegus monogyna Jacq. With one seed containing fruit C.oxycantha L. with three seeds as well as C. azaraolus Borkh, to identify the best method of Crataegus propagation. The hardwood cuttings of C.azarolus Borkh rooted in a IBA solution (4ooo ppm)showed the highest rooting percentage 20% when grown in sand as well as peat moss containing fermented arganic manure media.
