Specimens of serum from ١٦٨ healthy subjects (٨٠ men and ٨٨ women, ages ١٨ to ٧٨ years)were divided into three groups: fresh, storage at ٤°C, and freezing at-٢٠°C . Periodic essays for the activity of Butrylcholinesterase (BChE,EC. ٣٫١٫١٫٨) were made on each frozen and unfrozen specimen. Serum frozen at-٢٠°C and left at ٤°C gave results similar to those from fresh specimens. Comparison of samples from men and women revealed significantly higher activity in men than in women (P<٠٫٠٠١). Activity was greatest in men aged ١٨-٥٠ years and then declined to slightly lower values. In women the activity was less in those under ٥٠ years old than in those above ٥٠.

The study concluded 156 patients having thyroid nodes. All the patients checked up in Assad university hospital in Lattakia between 2008-2012. The majority of patients having thyroid nodes were 133 females a 85,26% compared to 23 male patients a 14 ,74%. Most patients are young approximatelyin their forties'. 78,21% of patients complained about having an enormity in the upper side of their necks. All clinical and Ultrasound examinations were conducted on all patients. The clinical examination was the answer to diagnosis. From the other hand the Ultrasound examination was more accurate and reliable. Fine-Needle Aspiration (FNA) was done for 30 patients and it was directed to 18 patients, but the result was negative for the rest. All tissue samples, which were taken while surgery, were studied and the result was , most nodes were not tumors, as tumors were only discovered in 23 patients a 14,74% and the majority of those tumors were papillary carcinoma. The study concluded that thyroid node in male patients has a higher chance to be a tumor by (2:1),after studying the tumors spread according to age and sex factors compared to the spread of thyroid node according to the same factors. In addition, the study concluded that the possibility of having thyroid nodesbecomes bigger as one gets older.Ther is no relation between the size of thyroid node and it's malignancy.
The study aimed to identify the relationship between social support and quality of life in a sample of teenagers with physical disabilities in Damascus governorate level, and know of the differences in their social support and quality of life, acc ording to two variables (sex and age). The study sample consisted of 112 students from physical disabilities Adolescents were selected purposely from government special education centers, and applied to them two Tools social support and quality of life, and are prepared by the researcher after verifying of validity and reliability.
Chronic periodontitis (CP) is an inflammatory disease, characterized by gingivitis, and affecting tooth supporting tissues, forming periodontal pockets with associated attachment loss, alveolar bone resorption. It is common in adults, but can also occur at any age. The rate of disease progression may be influenced by local, systemic conditions, and/or environmental factors that alter the normal host response to bacterial plaque, and affect the susceptibility to disease. It is suggested that periodontitis is partially associated by genetic factors, that many genes are involved in inflammation susceptibility, mainly include the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene that is implicated in bone metabolism and the host immune response. 80 Syrian subjects were recruited for vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism study, and allocated in two groups: 50 diagnosed with CP and mean age was (64 ± 0.722) years, 30 matched controls. DNA was isolated from peripheral blood cells, and genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (RFLP) by using FokI enzyme. By using Chi square test, no significant differences were found between the study groups in the frequencies of alleles and genotypes at FokI position of VDR gene, age and sex. These findings suggest that the investigated factors are not associated with periodontal disease in this studied sample of Syrian population.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of butyric acid alone or with Vitamins in the feed on liver enzymes activity and some minerals in serum. One hundred (100) 1-day old unsexed commercial Japanese quail chicks were studied for 42 days . The Japanese quail chicks were randomly divided into 4 groups as 25 chicks in each. The chicks were fed with starter mash which contained crude protein24% and metabolizable energy 2850 Kcal / kg up to 42 day of age.
Fractures of the mandibular condyles are frequent in facial traumas and their treatment represents a highly controversial issue in maxillofacial traumatology, functional and surgical treatments being the two principal management modalities for such f ractures. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of functional treatment of mandibular condylar fractures in patients which received this type of treatment. Eighty-six patients between 6 and 66 years old who were previously treated fuctionally for a fracture of the mandible condyle were recalled for follow up examination with a mean postoperative observation time of 10.4 years. Mandibular function was assessed using the mandibular function impairment questionnaire and patient's complaints were assessed during physical examination. The results showed a significant increase of dysfunction index values with increasing age at the time of trauma. Radiologic abnormalities such as reduced ramus height, deviation of the mandibular midline, and irregular shape of the condyle were observed and seen frequently, but they were not correlated with the severity of dysfunction. Predictors of mandibular function impairment after closed treatment of fractures of the mandibular condyle were: great deviation, reduced mouth opening, women gender, and increased age. The results of this study support the opinion that functional treatment is sufficient in pediatric patients, whereas in older age groups the results of conservative treatment are less sufficient
