A large fraction of radiation exposure experienced by individuals through ingestion of food, is from natural occurring radionuclides such as K40. In order to find the environmental radioactive background of K40 in Ninevah, Iraq, governorate and its transfer factor from soil to plant and then the effective dose equivalent from milk ingestion, the concentrations of K40 were measured in soil , plant and milk collected from 41 agricultural fields in Ninevah governorate in May/ June 2001.

The purpose of this research is to apply a mathematical program to calculate water and chemical balance in unsaturated soils, under the influence of different methods of irrigation, in order to monitor the amount of vertical drainage of water insi de the soil and choose a irrigation method that can reduce the phenomenon of groundwater pollution. Three irrigation methods were tested with different fertilization method. The study was conducted in the western part of Homs Governorate (AlQusair orchards).
40 samples were collected from milk from Homs to isolate the bacteria and study their ability to produce the enzyme β- galactosidase and diagnose isolates the most efficient in the production of the enzyme, the results showed the presence of 25 sporeforming isolates producing the enzyme β-galactosidase , the effectiveness of β-galactosidase was estimated using spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420 nm.
In this research, we have measured the radioactivity resulting from the Cesium-137 and Potassium-40 isotopes, in milk samples (from different sources) in Lattakia’s regions. It has been found that all samples were not contaminated by Cesium-137, but it was recorded that all samples containing radioactivity resulting from the Potasium-40 isotope with a magnitude range between , and average value . As compared with other world results, there was a good agreement between them, taking into account the errors in measurements.
This study aimed to determine of Coliform group in each of the soil , groundwater and plants in the villages of Taldo and Tal El- Zahab –Homs. The necessary tests has been conducting for the detecation of Coliform group for indicate to pollution b y sewage . The results showed great pollution in the samples of soil which irrigated by sewage . A positive correlation was identified between B.O.D.5 and enumerate Coliform group in water samples studied, and plant samples were contaminated with Coliform group, and the control samples were uncontaminated with Coliform group.
Four strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from different genus، species and sources were tested for their abilities to bind of AFM1 for 14 hours. Lactobacillus rhamnosus LC705 showed higher ability to bind AFM1 (88.35%)، followed by Bifidobacteri um bifidum BG1 (84.21%), Lactobacillus bulgaricus R21 by 80.41% and finally Streptococcus thermophilus by 71.52% after 14 hours of incubation.
