The Use of English Idioms in the Performance of Syrian EFL Students at Al-Baath University

This study investigates the problems and difficulties that Syrian EFL undergraduate students face in learning English idioms. The study aims to examine the students' competence in English idiomatic expressions and their ability to predict their meanings in different contexts based on their first language transfer, and whether there is a significant difference between the participants' productive and receptive knowledge of idioms.

Studying the reality of raising buffalo and some affecting factors on its milk production in Al- Ghab Plain

The aim of this study was to evaluate the affecting factors of Buffalo milk production in Al- Ghab Plain. The data were collected according to the farmers during the season of 2009-2010. The effect of parturition season, dry period and calving interval were studied. The results showed that the mean milk production was 934,96 kg with 8.1% fat and 4.85% protein. The lactation period was 180-240 days, the dry period was 120-180 days and the calving interval mean was 420 days. Our results indicated that the quantity of buffalo milk in Syria was low because of the short lactation period, the long dry period and the long calving interval. But it could be possible to improve the buffalo milk production by the better rasing conditions and genetic improvement.

Three experiments were conducted using Cobb 500 broiler breeders to determine oviposition pattern and the effect of oviposition time of eggs representing different positions in the normal egg laying sequence on egg weight , fertility , hatchability , embryonic mortality and chicken weight at hatch.
