Treatment of dentofacial deformities with jaw osteotomies has an effect on
airway anatomy, therefore mandibular setback surgery has potential to diminish airway size.
The aim of this study was evaluation the effect of mandibular setback surgery by
bilateral sagittal split
ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) on lower pharyngeal airway size in anteroposterior direction retrolingually
and hyoid bone position.
Cephalometric superimpositions are the most commonly means used to assess
the orthodontic teeth movement – especially- in cases of extraction - with their attendant risks and
difficulty, therefore dental casts were an alternative way for serial ass
essment. So the aim was to evaluate
the stability of the medial end of the third palatal ruga as a landmark in maxilla in extraction cases, and
the possibility of using it in the mandible.
Apical root resorption is a common adverse
effect during orthodontic treatment, specially the intrusion forces. Apical
photographs by using the parallel technique and with the help of some
formulas were the most common approaches to investigate th
e root
resorption. The aim of this study was to study the reliability of periapical
photographs in evaluating of root length shortening during orthodontic
intrusion forces, by comparing with that diagnosed by using the CT-scan
images.
