This study aimed to introduce - in our labs - a new method which confirms Gaucher disease, as we don't have the enzyme assay. In addition, We aimed to know the different mutations found in Syrian population and to compare it with other studies. In fact. we think that this the first time that such a study is carried out in Syria.
This study was performed in children’s hospital of Damascus University which included all cases of hydatid cysts admitted to the hospital between 1/1/1994 and 1/9/1996. The number of cases totaled 47 which accounted for 1.4 to 2.4 per 1000 admission in different years.
The study aimed to identify the levels of IGF-1 growth factor in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, where the levels of IGF-1 growth factor and its relationship with some important laboratory parameters such as (fasting blood gluc ose, HbA1c, duration of diabetes) were evaluated. LDL-c, HDL-c, TG, atherosclerotic index) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (Typ2DM).
Chemotherapy causes neutropenia and increase susceptibility to infections. Morbidity and mortality due to infections remain serious problem in children with cancer. Decreased serum levels of Mannose-binding lectin ( MBL) may represent a risk factor f or infections in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia receiving chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to determine whether low MBL levels is associated with increased risk of infections in Syrian children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The study has been done at Children University Hospital in Damascus between 2013-2014. This study included 37 children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who were candidates for chemotherapy, and the infections were identified depending on patients files. The levels of Mannose-Binding Lectin (MBL) was determined by Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA). The result was that MBL serum levels are higher in patients who did not develop infections compared to patients who developed infections, and all patients with low MBL levels developed infections in contrast to patients with normal MBL serum levels.
According to the high specificity and sensitivity of ELISA test, we tried in this preliminary study, to certify the usefulness of ELISA test in the detection of specific antibodies (IgG) to cutaneous leishmaniasis(CL) in SYRIA, in order to certify the diagnosis of this disease by using the classic methods (observation microscopic – culture).
