Vulnerability assessment of freshwater resources in the Orontes basin was estimated in the provinces of Homs, Hama and Idlib to better understand the current situation of water under the prevailing conditions and to identify the most prominent fac tors that influence water susceptibility to environmental changes. This study helps decision-makers in evaluating and modify existing policies and implementing suitable measures to improve water resource management.
Snobar River is the basic water resource system in Snobar watershed (268.8 km2), which empties into the Mediterranean sea 10 kilometers south of Lattakia. We must find out advanced management to face of the recent serious conflicts such as climate ch anges. Modeling is adopted as appropriate tool to achieve this object. This study uses the software package WEAP21 (Water Evaluation and Planning System), which is specifically designed to evaluate and plan the water resources. We suggest two scenarios to carry out the weaping Snob arriver basin: the first includes new irrigation techniques, the second includes extended dry climate. The study has shown that demand site coverage reaches to 100%, but the river dries in the downstream of Athwart reservoir. We economize on water by suggestion a dripping irrigation technique (59%). Water year method and extended dry climate scenario declare the likely dangerous effects of climate changes.
This research aims to study the water sources that feed watering and landscaping gardens networks in Homs city , where wells constitute most of these sources and study related problems and how to protect and preserve the quality and quantity require d for the fact that some of these wells is used to provide drinking water in the absence of the ability of water sources drinking key on it. The establishment of a database to establish the structural comprehensive sources(Master Plan) of water which are securing water for watering gardens, depending on geographic information systems (GIS) and perform analysis operations, processing and utilization of these results in making and decision support process to reduce waste operations and rationalization of consumption and conservation of pollution and help finding alternative water sources to cover the winning water deficit for watering gardens and propose appropriate recommendations.
The obtained results by hydrogeological and Tectonic survey related to fresh water resources in Al-Sin Basin, indicated that the fundamental aquifer of underground water in AL-SIN region belong to Jurassic. The alimentary basin of Al-Sin spring depen d upon filtration of rainfall water and snow throw Jurassic formation from north and north–east of basin. Direction of underground water circulation is toward west and south-west where we find flow place of Al-Sin spring and submarine fresh springs near seashore. Tectonical study shows the existence of fractures and fault groups with NE-SW, ENE-WSW and NW-SE directions. Groundwater movement has the same direction of fractures and faults NE-SW to ENE-WSW and Al-Sin fault structure which allow the existence of direct relation between principal Jurassic aquifer and secondary aquifer especially Cenomanian one.
Information Technology and systems theory with its powerful mathematical techniques, such as modeling, simulation and optimization, are very useful tools in the planning, development and management of water resources. These techniques are even mor e important in areas suffering from limited water resources. Their application may contribute efficiently to the optimal use of the available water resources. The author has carried out, in cooperation with other researchers, pioneering experiments of these techniques in Syria, mainly applied to Barada and Fijeh springs in Damascus area. The present paper aims at presenting parts of these experiments, study and analysis of the results, beside revealing the advantage of expanding their application to similar resources.
