Forty one patients with Hodgkin’s disease (HD) were investigated with 67Ga Scintigraphy before and after the completion of chemotherapy. At the same time, all patients underwent computer tomography (CT) scans. Patients were followed up for 28-60 months (average 40 months). Patients were divided into groups according to the positivity or negativity of the gallium scan after chemotherapy: 32 patients had negative gallium scans, and 9 patients had positive gallium scans. In the gallium–negative group, 18.7% of the patients relapsed and 93.8% were alive at the end of the follow-up. In the gallium positive-group, 88.8% of the patients had recurrent disease and 77.7% were alive after intensive chemotherapy. There was a statistically significant difference in the overall survival between patients with positive gallium results and patients with negative gallium results (P= 0.0041). The disease-free survival differed significantly between patients with positive gallium scan and patients with negative gallium scan at the end of chemotherapy (P< 0.001). The relative risk of death was 4.3 and the relative risk of relapse was 12 for patients with positive gallium scans, in comparison to those with negative gallium scans. The positive and negative predictive value for predicting relapse was 89% and 81% respectively.

Background: people with cancer experience great changes in their life as a result of disease, treatment and disease prognosis which affect their quality of life .with the goal of investigating breast cancer patient's quality of life during chemother apy in Tishreen hospital in Latakia.. Methods: 60 patients were invited to complete the European organization of research and treatment quality of life questionnaire version 3 and breast cancer quality of life module during their early stage of chemotherapy. Results : the results show that the (73.3%) were under the age of fifty and half of them reported total health status score under (50) which reflects low quality of life in addition to impaired psychological ,social, cognitive and role functioning. Also more than 67% of patient suffered from chemotherapy- related side effects as nausea and vomiting, dyspnea, loss of appetite, insomnia, and fatigue. In addition to variance in quality of life scores according to age, marital status, occupation and level of education without changing of it by educational level. In addition to that the majority of patient had impaired sexual function and upset of hair loss and arm symptoms but with positive and optimistic future. perspective. No significant differences in quality of life scores were found between urban and rural patients. Conclusion. Health care provider should assess routinely cancer patient quality of life during treatment to ascertain of providing appropriate care with supportive services for all patients
Ship collision accidents are considered of the most serious incidents, due to the subsequent disastrous results both in terms of economic losses in ships and cargo, and the loss of human life as well as the great environmental pollution caused by i t. Therefore, continuous efforts are being made by research centers in order to understand the structural response of the hull as a result of these incidents and accurately analyzed. This research is interested in assessing the residual structural strength of a ship exposed to collision through the internal energy and the various structural stresses generated within it. The case is modeled for an oil tanker exposed to collision by the bulbous bow of another vessel moves at different speeds and different angles. The structural strength of the middle section of the struck ship was analyzed based on the numerical methods using Ansys Dynamic Explicit program. Which allowed the development of a clear vision for the structural changes and internal stresses energy with time during the collision process.
Parotidectomy is a common surgical procedure associated with some complications as well as facial asymmetry.Frey syndrome is a common complication after protidectomy and characterized by a sweating and a flushing and/or an erythema of the cheek ar ea during mastication leading to very disturbing to the patient. Autologous fat transfer is an easy technique, widely used in cosmetic surgery to reconstruct the defect caused after various excisional surgeries as well as preventing or treatment frey syndrome. The aim of this study is to assist the results of autologous fat transfer to parotid area (after parotidectomy) in treatment frey syndrome in addition to improving the aesthetic aspects.
The current study aimed to examine the effects of the modified tandem appliance on the dimensions of the airways. Pretreatment and post-treatment cephalograms of twelve patients with maxillary deficiency, (7 girls, 5 boys; mean age 8±0.5 years), w ho were seeking treatment at the Department of Orthodontics, Damascus University, were studied. These patients were treated using the modified tandem appliance with rapid maxillary expansion.
Background: A cancer patient demands information, not only to assist him to understand the disease and its treatment, but also to allow him to interpret the negative events and action taken, through the course of disease, so that the threat inherent from the diagnosis and treatment becomes lessened. Methods: With the goal of studying the information needs and source of information of women with breast cancer who were receiving chemotherapy, 60 patients were invited to complete a self-administered questionnaire which consists of 47 item about information needs and 3 questions about sources of information with three choices (personnel, printed materials and mass media). They fill it at the early stage of their chemotherapy treatment. Results :The results showed that the majority of patients reported high level of information needs. Cancer and its spread, treatment, and side effects of chemotherapy as well as its management were priority information needs, in addition to the possibility of cancer occurrence among sisters and daughters. Results also demonstrated that the patients depended on doctors and other patients as sources of information more than on nurses and the internet. Conclusion: Findings indicate that there is a need for the provision of education program that addresses patients' information needs. Moreover, there is a necessity for ascertaining the role of educational nursing in affording holistic nursing care for breast cancer patien
