Regional planning is currently one of the pillars of the state and a measure of its development, because planning works to show the current or the future problems, and puts the appropriate solutions. So there is no doubt that the population is the main goal of any planning process by ensuring the various requirements of life for the increasing number of them year after year. Finding adequate housing is therefore one of the first steps in the planning process. The problem of population growth is one of the most prominent problems facing countries at present time. This is evident in city centers, which results in many problems such as informal housing. In this study, we had a spatial study to determine the best location for establishing a new city in order to accommodate the increasing number of population within the Lattakia Governorate (Syrian Arab Republic), and we also achieved a population study in order to determine the future population growth. Geographic information systems (GIS) have proven its efficiency in spatial and descriptive data management and analysis, so they have been relied upon to determine the appropriate places for urban expansion based on a set of criteria collected from a range of research that affect the selection process of these areas, through spatial analysis tools within the GIS software to reach the appropriate areas of expansion to accommodate the expected population growth.

The paper proceeds to review the concept of Residential Urban Spaces and their classification, and to limit the variables affecting the performance of the spaces and identify the ways to measure these variables. Then, it conducts a field survey of a variety of spaces in the City of Lattakia. The paper also proceeds to conduct a questionnaire to the urban spaces users and the residents of the surrounding segments of the population in order to identify the users’ opinions and reviews on the current status of the space performance and identify the most important needs and activities favored by the users within the space. It also identifies the reasons behind selecting certain spaces rather than others. After that, the paper proceeds to analyze the data in order to develop a mathematical model that determines the most important variables that affect the performance of the space, positively or negatively. Consequently, a mechanism will be set up to boost the performance of the Residential Urban Spaces by influencing the most powerful variables affecting the spaces and rejecting the weaker ones. Finally, making recommendations to activate the spaces and make it a safe interactive human, socio- cultural environment.
The Study focuses on the contemporary planning applications in shaping the urban structure of the residential areas in general and the spatial formation in particular, according to a schematic structure that depends on classification of these space s by kind, function of these special formation and their distinguished characteristics. The study focuses on the gradual scales of the formed spaces within the urban residential structure according to their functions, starting with the external courtyards surrounded by residential buildings whose construction in open space differs from the one in closed space, according to the predominant climatic conditions, then we move to the spaces of motorcar streets and pedestrians roads that have the dynamic and vitality characteristic by the multiplicity of uses, the functions, and the changes of its design structure. Spaces surrounding the public and service buildings form some special distinctive structural points especially when they complement each other with the surrounding buildings in architecture and volume. The formation of aesthetic-visual image in the urban spaces and the visual recognition mechanism divides the urban spaces into three principal types and discusses the relationship between shapes, volumes and colors of the building that form the space and visual sensation with the homogeneity and extension of space. Then the research studies various samples of the urban residential structure of Lattakia city and the spatial formation by performing general classifications of the urban spaces forming this structure according to the type and function of each. Then, we conclude the advantages and disadvantages of the schematic solution and understand the reasons of the negative aspect to be avoided in future.
Cities form the major urban environment that human beings live and do their various activities, but the population pressure and the increasing population density in cities led to the expansion of cities either spontaneously or according to plans re leased by governments aiming to improve expansion regions to be new growth centers that positively contribute in supporting cities that suffer from overcrowding, deterioration of facilities and the lack of spaces suitable for urban expansion. The process of developing specific classification standards that take into account the privacy of those growth centers, will contribute to put the proper methods to achieve desired objectives of its establishment in terms of quality and quantity at all levels and sectors, in particular the residential suburbs due to its important role, adjacency to cities, urban and social role, and the mutual influence between suburbs and cities.
The purpose of this research is to know the reality of the use of educational techniques and laboratory devices in secondary vocational schools in Lattakia Governorate, The research adopted descriptive analytical method through a questionnaire con sisting of (50) words distributed on four axes, has been verified the validity and stability through appropriate statistical methods, And then applied to the study sample which consisted of (127) teachers, assistant teachers and vocational teachers in a number of vocational secondary schools in Lattakia Governorate during the second semester of the academic year (2016-2017), The most important findings of the research: -The degree of ownership of the competencies of the use of educational techniques and laboratory devices in vocational schools and the degree of use of these techniques and devices medium. -The degree of obstacles to the use of educational techniques and laboratory devices in vocational schools and the degree of requirements for the development of this use is high. - There were no statistically significant differences in the identification of the reality of the use of educational techniques and lab equipment in secondary vocational schools in Lattakia Governorate according to the variables of the place of study and the job title. - There were statistically significant differences in the possession of competencies in the use of educational techniques and laboratory devices in vocational schools and the use of these techniques and devices according to the variable training courses for those who followed one or more courses. There were no differences regarding the obstacles of using educational techniques and laboratory equipment in vocational schools. The research concluded with a set of proposals aimed at developing the use of educational techniques and laboratory equipment in vocational secondary schools in Lattakia Governorate.
This paper presents the Change vector analysis (CVA) approach for detecting and characterizing radiometric change in multispectral remote sensing data sets The dynamic changes of the land use/land cover were studied in lattakia city by using two E TM-Landsat-7 scenes, for the years 2000, and 2010, and the spatial resolution of those two images was 15 m. The CVA algorithm has been applied and produced two ‘channels’ of output change information multispectral change magnitude and change vector direction in land use/land cover during this period. Two models have been built within ERDAS Imagine 8.6 software to perform the algorithm and evaluate the positive and negative changes and analyze the the human impacts on the land use/ land cover change. This method can be applied to various fields of study in order to generate maps represent the continuous development of land use and land cover. These maps can be significantly useful for the regional and urban planning and natural resource management, in light of the great expansion of urban areas at the expense of green spaces and uncontrolled use of the land.
