انتهجت الدّراسات في مجال أنظمة الاتصالات اللاسلكية خلال السّنوات القليلة الماضية منحىً غايته تصميم منظومات راديويّة أكثر تكيفاً و مرونةً في دعم عدة معايير اتصال ضمن المنظومة الواحدة. أضحت هذه الغاية اليوم إلى حدٍّ ما واقعاً عملياً كأنظمة الاتصالات الراديويّة المعرّفة برمجياً Software Defined Radio ( SDR ( و التي شكلت البيئة الأساسية لمجموعةٍ من الأنظمة الحديثة.
