The identification of the cumin oil composition was determined qualitatively and quantitatively by GC, using standard compounds. The components of the cumin seed oil (Cuminaldehyde, p-cymen and β-penine) were matched with the standard compounds. The factors effect on some components of cumin seed volatile oil were studied. The effects of time and temperature on the cumin seeds components were studied, the results have been shown that the total oil and volatile oil and its main components decreases with the passing of time and with the increasing of temperature.
A Study was carried out to evaluate the ability of the methanolic, hydro and oily extractions of anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum L.) to inhibit the growth of the pathogenic fungi Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger. The results showed a good in hibition ability of the alcoholic and hydro extractions on the growth of the studied fungi. The inhibition ability differed due to the used concentrations. When the methanolic extraction was used by concentrations (2, 4, and 6) mlg/ ml at the seventh day, the inhibition ability was (42.5, 50.6 and 64.4)% of the fungus F. oxysporum, respectively. And was (23.6, 42.7 and 55.1)% of the fungus A. niger, respectively. Whereas when the hydro extraction was used by the same concentrations, the inhibition ability was (59.2, 65.3 and 70)% respectively for the fungus F. oxysporum, and (46.1, 58 and 61)% for the fungus A. niger, respectively. The oily extraction showed high inhibition ability, where the inhibition rate was 100% when the extraction was used by the two concentrations 50 and 75 μl for both two studied fungi.
The bio-effect of anise oil and its fruit extracts(alcoholic and aqueous extract) to control the cowpea beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus that infest stored leguminous crops was investigated. The study was conducted according to three treatments: e vaporation, direct spray of insects and food spray. The anise oil was used at different concentrations from 0.05 to 5%. Whereas, the aqueous and .alcoholic fruit extracts were used as 30%.
Due to the economical and medical importance of the Capparisspinosa plant and the wide distribution of this plant in the Syria environment, it was thought that a study of the composition of Essential Oil extracted from this plant. The Capparisspin osa Essential Oil was extracted and purified components wher studied by GC-Mass spectrometry. The Oil was obtained by steam distillation (Clevegerexractor) and by solvent n- Hexane. Components have been found which was about (98.9 %) from the total of essential oil. The major components were determined by steam distillation which were the following:Palmitic acid (21.12%), Hexatriacontane (15.87%), n-Heneicosane (10.96%), Pentatriacontane (9.92%), Hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (8.51%). The major components were determined by solvent Hexane: Isobornyl acrylate (66.89%), 2-Azido-2,3,3-trimethylbutane (6.09%), Ethanolamine (5.41%).
The aim of this study is to determine the concentration of caffeine in energy drinks available in Syrian market to ensure whether the caffeine concentration in them follow the FDA recommendation or not , and detection the presence of alcohols . Three types of energy drinks available in Syria are studied in this experiment. Caffeine content is analyzed and quantified by UV spectroscopy. Specific tests for alcohol hydroxyl are used to detect its presence and determine the alcohols type. This study has shown the existence of variable quantities of caffeine; however the highest percentage is existed in Marinas Turbo 51.81 micro gram/100 ml and the lowest percentage is existed in XXX L Flash Red 1.89 micro gram/100 ml. Research has shown that energy drinks have negative effects on their users , especially the youth.A survey is done on a sample of 130 people in Alqadmous – Tartous. No alcohol is found in XXX L Flash Red and Power Horse, but it was found in Marinas Turbo.
