Six water stations were chosen along the lower reach section of AlKebir ALShimaly river and some of it's tributaries, differing in their biotic and abiotic features. Water and animal samples were collected bimonthly during spring, summer & autumn a nd monthly during winter during the period 25/8/2013 – 26/8/2014. Seventeen species of freshwater molluscs were identified in all stations, fifteen belonging to Gastropoda (6 of Prosobranchia & 9 of Pulmonata) and 2 belonging to Bivalvia, one of it (Corbicula fluminea) was recorded for the first time in Syrian Arab Republic. We focused on in this study on the station ( Mafraq Quesmeen) that we studied it's chemical and physical properties of the water and we identified 11 mollusc species and the most frequency of it was Melanopsis praemorsa and it's frequency rate was 46.48% and it was the most constant in all continuous samples and it was 100%
When estimating groundwater recharge in karstified and fractured aquifers it’s important to take into consideration, that they differ from porous aquifers by inhomogeneities of their hydraulic properties because of the great variance of infiltrati on properties in their rocks. In this research the process of groundwater recharge in Sher-mansour and Haramon areas in Antilebanon, where karstified and fractured aquifers are developed, was discussed. The portion of rainfall reaching the groundwater was calculated by applying water balance and groundwater level changes methods. In the first method the area was divided into surface zones and water balance components were calculated in each zone and the portion was estimated at 55.8% of rainfall in dry years like 2005-2006. In the second method the area was divided into subsurface zones and groundwater level fluctuations, storage coefficient and groundwater storage were calculated. The groundwater recharge varied between 17.5% in Haramon area and 80% in Sher Mansour area. The results showed that portions of rainfall reaching groundwater are not equal in the deferent subsurface zones and are deferent from those calculated by water balance method.
This research was carried out during the period 08/28/2012 - 07/29/2013 in order to determine the qualitative composition of Puffer Fishes (Tetraodontidae) in the marine water of Latakia. Fish samples were collected from three stations (Borj Islam , Al madina al riyadiah and Jableh), the total of fishes were / 255 / individuals. All fish individuals were classified, preserved and placed at the High Institute of Marine Research Laboratory, some biological factors of the collected fish (K%, GSI%,HIS%) were studied. Results had revealed the presence of five species of Puffer Fish belong to three genera of Tetraodontidae: Lagocephalus sceleratus, L. spadiceus, L. suezensis, Sphoeroides pachygaster, Torquigener flavimaculosus. S. pachygaster species (migratory species from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea) has been recorded for the first time in the marine water of Syria. Results showed that L. suezensis were more coincidence species in the catch. The amounts caught of Puffer Fishes varied according to the stations; the highest was in Borj Islam. K% was almost similar in all species, while GSI% and HSI% varied according to the species and seasons.
The problem of drinking water scarcity exacerbates in some villages in Tartous governorate making water conservation a priority. The aim of this study is to identify the patterns and practices of household water consumption of a sample of water su bscribers in Tartous governorate in order to determine the procedures through which to rationalize the consumption of drinking water. For this purpose, a survey of 150 household water subscribers was conducted. The answers were then subjected to a statistical analysis. The results indicated the presence of a high percentage of those who follow the procedures for rationalizing the consumption of water within the sample (95.3%), and a low percentage of those who have the techniques for reducing water consumption (4.7%). The majority of those surveyed (87.3%) objected to increasing the price of water as a measure to reducing water consumption. The study revealed that there is a good aqueous awareness in the governorate on which one can rely in rationalizing the consumption of drinking water through awareness campaigns.
