This study was carried out in a protected area at Rangeland and Dry Environment Research Station, belongs to ACSAD and Aleppo university in the Muslumieh, Aleppo, during 2004, by cultivating 11 plant species belong to three different families, Fabaceae (3 species), Poaceae (7 species) and Rosaceae (one species), using 4 moisture Levels (5, 10, 15 and 20 mm), and 6 seeding depths (0, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 cm). Results showed that the seeds of all the investigated species failed to germinate at the moisture level of 5 mm, while Onobrychis sativa (36.2%), Agropyron elongatum (53.9%), Agropyron cristatum (36.1%), Phalaris tuberose (41.1%), Dactylis glomerata (12.2%) and Sanguisorba minor (1.12%) germinated under 10 mm humidity. The seeds of all investigated species germinated at the higher moisture levels (15 and 20 mm), but the germination ratio varied between the species. The seeds of all studied species were capable of germinating when placed at the soil surface and seeding depth of 3 cm. The seeds of Agropyron elongatum (73.3%), Agropyron cristatum (13.3%), Phalaris tuberosa (36.7%) were capable of germinating at depth of 5 cm. The seeds of all studied species failed to germinate at a the planting depth of 7 cm.

The effect of different treatments on carob seed germination was studied. The results showed that, seed scarification was the most effective method in increasing germination rate as well as the use of concentrated sulfuric acid for 30 minutes reac hing 100%, followed by the treatment with alcohol for 60 minutes, and immersing seeds in hot water for 60 minutes. The results also indicated that the speed of germination when seeds were scarified was the best (I.D.=14.5), followed by the treatment with concentrated sulfuric acid for 30 minutes (I.D.=21.5), alcohol for 60 minutes (I.D.= 38) and immersing seeds in hot water for 60 minutes (ID.=60).
This research aims study the effect of different treatments in activate and increase percentage of germination Cupressus arizonicaL.seeds to use plants in forestation projects, seeds were get from mature conifers, and tested by different treatments with control, then cultured within polyethylene bags many times to calculate indicators of germination. The results showed that the soaking the seeds Cupressus arizonicaL. in citric acid 0.1% with cold wet stratification for 30 days at 4-5c gave higher germination percentage 75%.The treatments of the soaking seeds in sulfuric acid0.1% and hydroxide sodium 0.1% with cold wet stratification for 30 days gave respectively 60%-53% .But superiority was not significant. Other treatments; soaking the seeds in tap water 24h with cold wet stratification for 30 days gave only 36%.But the control treatment gave lower germination percentage of all just only 9%. The treatment of soaking seeds in citric acid 0.1% with cold wet stratification for 30 days surpassed the rest of the treatments in effect on plant height at the end of the experiment.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of pepper (pipiemento variety), and eggplant (Dara variety) seed's treatment on germination characteristics, and the impact of eggplant seeds treatment on seedling quality. The seeds were treated for 24 hours in glass containers, in which the ratio of seeds to the applied media was 1:5, the concentration of the mineral solution was 0.1%, while the concentration of each of GA3 and the organic nutrient solution was 0.01%. The media were continuously aerated by passing a current of pure oxygen (O2), at sufficient pressure to homogenously mix the seeds in the media. The seeds were dried up after 24 hours of treatment to remove the excess moisture. Seeds were germinated in Petri dishes, and soil-full containers to assess the germinability, and seed vigor. The eggplant seeds were also sown in peat-moss containing pots (8 cm indiameter) to study the influence of treatment on seedling quality. The results showed that treatment efficiency depends on the nature of the used media, and crop. In addition, it has been revealed that the aeration of media enhanced the germination, accelerated the seedling growth, and improved their quality.
This research was carried out during two seasons 2014 – 2015 to study effect of seed coats on germination of endocarp, seed and embryos of two wild genotypes (M1, M2) of Mahaleb rootstock (Prunus mahaleb L.) prevailing in Alhaffa area, Lattakia. Th e experiments were done at Lattakia Scientific Agricultural Research center and Faculty of Agriculture at Tishreen University. The Results of the seeds planted on agar 0.7% in dark at 15 C° showed that no germination of the M1 endocarp VS late and low germination at 10% for the M2 endocarp starting after 98 days. As for seeds, the germination was (66.66%) and (53.33%) for M1 and M2, respectively. Removal of the woody coat (endocarp) and seed coat makes the germination faster. the embryos germination was (80%) and (60%) for M1 and M2, respectively.
The results shows that, the cold wet of Canary pine seeds stratification for 15 days at (4-5c◦),gave higher germination percentage( 91.11%). The treatment of soaking seeds with superiority was not significant. Other treatments; the cold wet strati fication of seed for(30) days at(4-5c◦), soaking seeds with tap water for (48 h.) and the control, all gave lower germination percentages, but still higher than (60%). The treatment of soaking seeds with GA had significant superiority in the speed of germination (2.32 day ∕ seed), but it was not significant with the cold wet stratification.
