The fourth fillial generation with their parents p1 and p2 for four crosses in six row barley (Hordium vulgare L.): Jezera1 x Badya, Tadmer x Arivat, Rehan x Bendict and Rum x Forest. The seeds were planted in 2007 using R.C.B.D. with four replications. The data were recorded for the traits; maturity time, number of spikes, spike length, grain yield, weight of 1000 grains and number of grains per spike, to estimate average degree of dominance, heritability and expected genetic advance from selection.. The results showed that over dominance were presence for the studied traits. The values of broad sense heritability were high for the studied traits in the all crosses. The values of narrow sense heritability were (1) high for number of spikes in the all crosses, maturity time, grain yield and spike length in the second and fourth crosses and weight of 1000 grains in the second cross(2) low for the weight of 1000 grains and number of grains per spike in the fourth cross.(3) moderately for the other traits. The results of this study indicated that selection will be effective to obtain superior strains in the four crosses for the studied traits except spike length and weight of 1000 grains in the second cross. Therefore recurrent selection will be suggested to increase the desirable genes.

A half diallel set of crosses among six inbred lines of sweet corn was evaluated to study heterosis and combining ability among plant height, ear height, ear diameter, number of rows per ear and ear yield per plant. The study was carried out at the a gricultural research center in, GCSAR, Lattakia, Snoubar Jableh, during the 2010, 2011 seasons. Result showed that almost all crosses expressed a significant positive heterosis effect for ear yield per plant relative to mid parents and better parents; whereas, the highest positive significant percentage of heterosis for ear yield per plant were expressed by the crosses (L4xL6) which gave (198.70%, 176.81%) and (L4xL6) which gave (196.94%, 168.56%), over mid parents and better parents, respectively. The ratio (σ2GCA/σ2SCA) which was less than (1) showed that the non-additive gene action was more important than the additive gene action in all traits except plant height and ear height. The inbred lines L3 (17.061) and L4 (12.011) seemed to be the best general combiners for ear yield. Also, based on SCA effects, many of single crosses were identified as superior for ear yield, and the best hybrid was L3xL5(50.173).
This study was carried out in cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture, Damascus University and the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research (GCSAR) in Karahta station of field crops researches during two growing seasons (2003 -04 & 2004-05). Four local improved barley lines and cultivars (female parents) were crossed with five exotic lines and cultivars (male parents) using line × tester method. The crosses were grown along with their parents in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications to estimate general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability(SCA) and both mid and high parent heterosis for number of spikes per plant, number of grains per spike, thousand kernel weight, and grain yield per plant.
The main objective of this study was to describe economic and econometric analysis of cost functions of rain-feed barley production in the northern region from Syria and determine the economically efficient size and the profitmaximizing size, Prim ary data collected in (2010) through research interviews with farmers were used. Farms in the rainfed areas in. the northern region were divided according to stabilization zones (1, 2, 3 and 4), Through the descriptive economic analysis of costs of production of Farms in the rainfed areas in the northern region were divided according to stabilization zones (1, 2, 3 and 4), Through the descriptive economic analysis of costs of production of Barley, it was shown that the highest average cost of production of one dunum in the northern region was 1859.3 sp. in zone (1) and the lowest average cost of production of one dunum was 1694.5 sp. in zone (4), From the analysis of costs and returns, the results indicated that the highest net return (profit) in the northern region was 650.43 sp./dunum in zone (1), and the lowest net return (profit) was 395.2 sp./dunum. in zone (3) Also, the results of the descriptive economic analysis indicated that the lowest average cost of production of 1 kg of barley was 8.3 sp. in zone (1 and 2), and the highest average cost of production of 1 kg of oil was 9.3 sp. in zone (4), Using the econometric models of cost functions, the economically efficient size and the profit-maximizing size were computed and determined for each zone, indicating that farmers' practices were too far from these sizes based on the econometric analysis; namely the economically efficient size and the profit-maximizing size. Also the results indicated that the economically efficient acreage size was 35.8 dunum in zone (4), which was less than the actual area of this region.
Five populations of faba bean were advanced from F2 to F3 generations by simple recurrent selection at Terbol research station, International Centre for Agricultural Research in The Dry Areas (ICARDA), Lebanon. During the growing season summer 201 3. The produced genotypes of selection were evaluated in winter 2013-2014 in order to estimate the narrow-sense heritability and genetic advance for seed yield, plant height, pods per plant and 100-seeds weight traits. The results showed that S2012-085 population was superior in heritability for seed yield (0.5), 100-seed weight (0.5) and pods per plant (0.5), while the population S2012-133 was recorded the supreme value for plant height (0.858). The results demonstrate that genetic advance for seed yield trait was varied from 53% to 72.4%, and the highest value of genetic advance for seed yield was belonged to the population S2012-018 (72.4%). Most of traits under research were recorded a moderate values of narrow sense heritability accompanied with high values of genetic advance, indicating to the importance of additive genetic variances related to the total genetic variances, Consequently, recurrent selection is very important to apply in order to improve the traits across segregated generations of faba bean.
This research was conducted at the Maize Research Department (Kharaboo) of General Commission of Science Agriculture Research (GCSAR), Damascus, Syria, during the growing seasons of 2009, 2010 ad, 2011 to study the genetic behavior of days to 50% silking, plant height, ear length, 100 grains weight and yield per plant by using generation mean analysis (GMA) of two individual hybrids of maize, to estimate the heritability, Phenotypic (PCV), and genotypic (GCV) coefficient variations and the genetic advance.
