The aim of this study was to control the content of some commercial products containing amino acid (Arginine) available in the local market in addition to other products containing creatine and protein. Three methods were used for quantitative determination of amino acids Kjeldahl method depending on the total content of nitrogen, assay by the visible radiation using Spectrophotometer after ninhydrin derivatization and high performance liquid chromatography with pre-column O-phtadelaldehyde derivatization using fluorescence detector. There were no significant differences in the results obtained by the three used methods. The results revealed that dietary supplements containing creatine and protein were conform to the European pharmacopoeia specifications, regarding products containing arginine used as medication and locally manufactured, they were conform to pharmacopoeia specifications while the illegal dietary supplement containing arginine were not conform.

Artificial intelligence review:
Research summary
Critical review

Formaldehyde is classified by the World Health Organization (International Agency for Research on Cancer) as a carcinogen in Group 1. The upper limit allowed for use in cosmetic products as a preservative has to not exceed 0.2%. This study aims to detect and determine formaldehyde level in some cosmetic products available in the local market using acetyl acetone method. Formaldehyde was detected in 77% of the studied cosmetic products (49 samples) despite the fact that most of them were not labeled formaldehyde or formaldehyde donor preservatives (about 70%). The amount of formaldehyde in keratin samples were higher than the allowed limit (0.34% -11.73%) except one sample 0.18%. pH decrease and temperature increase of keratin samples led to an increase of formaldehyde level as a result of its release from preservatives.
Herbal slimming products are one of the most wide spreading herbal products in many countries around the world and in Syria as well, they are often advertised to contain purely natural ingredients. These products are provided by various sources and t hey are available over the counter, therefore, in most cases, they are not under quality control. Such these quality-uncontrolled products are considered a health and economic issue facing many countries in the world especially undeveloped countries which usually lack for regulation rules governing herbal products trading. In this study, 20 samples have been collected from the herbal slimming products available in the local market. At the beginning, these samples have been divided into locally manufactured samples (8 samples) and illegal samples (12 samples). The packaging and labeling test has been applied to all samples. Later on, these samples have been tested with TLC and HPLC to make sure they are free of Sibutramine, using in TLC Methanol/Toluene (1:9) as a mobile phase, and in HPLC Acetonitrile/phosphate buffer pH=5.5 (70:30) as a mobile phase, column BDS Hypersil C18, flow rate 0.5 ml/min and wavelength 225nm. The results of packaging and labeling test revealed that all of the locally manufactured samples are matching to the American pharmacopoeia USP30 and GMP in terms of packaging, labeling and internal leaf sheets with exception for one sample. As for illegal samples, all of them matched the pharmacopoeia and GMP with exception for 6 samples. With regards to testing the samples using TLC and HPLC, results indicated that 3 samples out of 8 locally manufactured samples contained Sibutramine with amount ranging between (8- 10) mg/capsule, while all illegal samples contained Sibutramine with amount ranging between (5-26) mg/capsule.
Benzoic acid is extensively used in the preservation of food products for maintaining quality and extending shelf life by inhibiting mould and bacteria growth. Some previous studies have demonstrated that consumption of excessive amounts of benzoi c acid could be a health hazard. The aim of this study was to detect the presence of benzoic acid and its salts in some commercial children food like potatochips that labeled "Free of Preservatives" . Twenty seven samples of potatochips purchased from three different local products were analyzed for the presence of benzoic acid. The results revealed the presence of benzoic acid in nine samples and its concentration was between 100.34-188.65mg/kg. We have concluded also that TLC is a very convenient method for the detection of benzoic acid in food products .
The samples of various food products have been collected at several times per season over two years, in order to determine the content of phytic acid to investigate the influence of the adopted treatment methods on phytic acid degradation and to mi nimize their unhealthy effects. It's been shown that PA is found at high levels in the mentioned products especially, in unripe fruits where its levels ranged between (0.15-3.57%g.s.d) while PA levels were less in the process products and ranged between (0-1.95 %g.s.d). Technological processes were applied to biodegrade phytic acid of some foods and the reduction ratio ranged between 20-60% of the whole content of PA.
The microbiological limits are considered to be one of the quality criteria that affect pharmaceutical. Herbal drug medicine is of some specialty since their raw material contains a high bioburden. According to pharmacopoeia, Herbal drugs are main ly whole, fragmented or cut, plants, parts of plants, algae, fungi, lichen in an unprocessed state, usually in dried form but sometimes fresh.
