News media structure their reporting of events or issues using certain perspectives. When describing an incident involving gun violence, for example, some journalists may focus on mental health or gun regulation, while others may emphasize the discus sion of gun rights. Such perspectives are called frames'' in communication research. We study, for the first time, the value of combining lead images and their contextual information with text to identify the frame of a given news article. We observe that using multiple modes of information(article- and image-derived features) improves prediction of news frames over any single mode of information when the images are relevant to the frames of the headlines. We also observe that frame image relevance is related to the ease of conveying frames via images, which we call frame concreteness. Additionally, we release the first multimodal news framing dataset related to gun violence in the U.S., curated and annotated by communication researchers. The dataset will allow researchers to further examine the use of multiple information modalities for studying media framing.
We release a new benchmark for lexical substitution, the task of finding appropriate substitutes for a target word in a context. For writing, lexical substitution systems can assist humans by suggesting words that humans cannot easily think of. Howev er, existing benchmarks depend on human recall as the only source of data, and therefore lack coverage of the substitutes that would be most helpful to humans. Furthermore, annotators often provide substitutes of low quality, which are not actually appropriate in the given context. We collect higher-coverage and higher-quality data by framing lexical substitution as a classification problem, guided by the intuition that it is easier for humans to judge the appropriateness of candidate substitutes than conjure them from memory. To this end, we use a context-free thesaurus to produce candidates and rely on human judgement to determine contextual appropriateness. Compared to the previous largest benchmark, our Swords benchmark has 3x as many substitutes per target word for the same level of quality, and its substitutes are 1.4x more appropriate (based on human judgement) for the same number of substitutes.
We present a COVID-19 news dashboard which visualizes sentiment in pandemic news coverage in different languages across Europe. The dashboard shows analyses for positive/neutral/negative sentiment and moral sentiment for news articles across countrie s and languages. First we extract news articles from news-crawl. Then we use a pre-trained multilingual BERT model for sentiment analysis of news article headlines and a dictionary and word vectors -based method for moral sentiment analysis of news articles. The resulting dashboard gives a unified overview of news events on COVID-19 news overall sentiment, and the region and language of publication from the period starting from the beginning of January 2020 to the end of January 2021.
The paper describes work in progress in the DanNet2 project financed by the Carlsberg Foundation. The project aim is to extend the original Danish wordnet, DanNet, in several ways. Main focus is on extension of the coverage and description of the adj ectives, a part of speech that was rather sparsely described in the original wordnet. We describe the methodology and initial work of semi-automatically transferring adjectives from the Danish Thesaurus to the wordnet with the aim of easily enlarging the coverage from 3,000 to approx. 13,000 adjectival synsets. Transfer is performed by manually encoding all missing adjectival subsection headwords from the thesaurus and thereafter employing a semi-automatic procedure where adjectives from the same subsection are transferred to the wordnet as either 1) near synonyms to the section's headword, 2) hyponyms to the section's headword, or 3) as members of the same synset as the headword. We also discuss how to deal with the problem of multiple representations of the same sense in the thesaurus, and present other types of information from the thesaurus that we plan to integrate, such as thematic and sentiment information.

The research had been implemented in Daher Al Kheribat stand in Jableh area in Syria in 2014- 2015 with the aim to inventory and characterize the herbal vegetation cover. Four sites were chosen in the stand. We adopted Parker method to estimate the plant coverage and relative coverage, and the method of squares was adopted to estimate the intensity and frequency. Plant samples were collected from the stand and dried and then classified based on Flora available. 42 species were registered belonging to 35 genuses distributed in 16 families. The number of plant species palatable was higher than the number of plant species unpalatable. Bromus squarrosus L. recorded the highest relative importance (28.3%), followed by Alopecurus urticulatus Banks & Sol (15.1%) then Euphorbia helioscopia L. (9.0%), The Bromus squarrosus L plant and the Alopecurus urticulatus Banks & Sol are good pastoral while the Euphorbia helioscopia L. plant is worthless pastoral.
In addition to the aesthetic role of buildings' façade stone coverage, there are many expected issues of this process notably identity and environmental friendly. This process is often used superficially and inappropriately in many cases it has been used for marketing purposes, sometimes resulting in an abuse of the goals and the process which was created for and deteriorated badly even the local identity of the city. Unfortunately, many of the architects were involved in the abuse. Hence the research finds the need to identify ways to use the texture in design and implementation processes, methods and the success of the use of stone environmentally, its success and the reasons for its failure to address the problems in Lattakia city, through knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of stone and methods.
