This study investigated the effect of adding different
percentages of sand to several types of clay soils, Which used as
liners at solid waste landfill sites in order to find the best mixing
ratio (sand - clay).
In this study, the effect of temperature on volume strains in three
types of local clay soils was studied after adding different percentages of
sand for each soil (10%-20%-30%40%-50%) when temperatures change
from (20-60)° C to be used as liners i
n solid waste landfill sites . The
results of the study showed that the mixing of sand with the clay played a
key role in reducing the magnitude of volume strains between (24-27%)
of the value of strains.
Seasonal changes effect on yield and quality of carrageenan from the Syrian
marine alga Hypnea musciformis were studied during 1 year. The carrageenan
yield varied from 31 to 46%. The maximum yield was recorded between April
and September, while l
ow carrageenant content was recorded in December.
The gel strength of carrageenan was maximum in September (260 g/cm²) and
minimum in March (90 g/cm²). The viscosity ranged from 22 to 44cP with a
peak recorded in September. Seasonal variations were not observed in the
gelling (42-50 C°) and melting (60-70 C°) temperatures of carrageenan. The
results indicate that Hypnea musciformis can be considered a good sources for
production of commercial carrageenan in future.
This paper provides a mechanism to study aluminum diffusion microstructure, phase
structure and different properties of the aluminized layer in carbon steel.
The results of aluminized treatment in saturated medium lead to the formation of diffusion
layer coating that contains iron aluminide and a- solid solution of aluminum in the unit cell of
iron.
The effect of aluminizing process parameters on the aluminizing layer, especially the
effect of temperature and time, has been shown to increase the depth of the aluminized layer
when temperature and time increase, but the effect of temperature is greater than time.
