In this study, the effect of temperature on volume strains in three types of local clay soils was studied after adding different percentages of sand for each soil (10%-20%-30%40%-50%) when temperatures change from (20-60)° C to be used as liners i n solid waste landfill sites . The results of the study showed that the mixing of sand with the clay played a key role in reducing the magnitude of volume strains between (24-27%) of the value of strains.
The scientific and practical value of this research appears in recognizing the characteristics of the clay soil, which is located in Alnabeck, and used in constructing ALwagar earth fill dam. We will study five samples chosen from the materials site Hofar ALmlagea and which will be used in constructing ALwagar earth fill dam through which some Geo-geometrical characteristics like (Liquid Limit, Plasticity Limit, plasticity index, Consistency Index, Liquidity Index, Clay activity, collapse degree) will be determined. Depending on the Results of this study, we used international classifications (Casagrande classification – Unified Soil Classification System) to study the soil of the studied area. We made use of the results of the experimental study to determine the position of soil according to the international classification, and we suggested some solutions to improve the characteristics of the soil which is used in constructing soil dams.
This search include making laboratory tests on sandy soil samples ,wich were taken from Damascus Suburb (Alkastal-Maarona- Alsallema) and from Hama(Alsalameya), physical and clasificated tests were made besides oedometer tests, two limited cases w ere studied :maximum loose and maximum dense for each soil. Values of deformation modulus (E) were determined from oedometric compression curves at various compression levels, and then the experimental equations between deformation modulus and primary void ratio, and between modulus of lateral soil pressure and deformation modulus were concluded at maximum loose and maximum dense.

This research studies the effect of the addition of polypropylene fibers (PF) on the properties of the swelling clayey soil. The effect of PF on the shear strength of the clayey soil has been studied and the results show that adding PF, up to spec ific value, increases the shear strength. Beyond this value of addition, the shear strength decreases. The increase in shear strength was about (100-110) % and the optimal addition ratio was determined.
