Asthma exacerbations can be frequent and range in severity from relatively mild to
status asthmaticus. While the efficacy of intravenous MgSO4 hasbeen demonstrated, the
informations available on its inhaled role still low and conflicting, so the st
udy aim to
investigate the effect of thecombinationof MgSO4and salbutamol in the management of
acute asthma attack.
A randomized clinical trial was conducted on 76 patients, divided into two groups:
experimental (40) and control (36) patients. The trial received nebulised salbutamol with
magnesium sulphate and control nebulised salbutamol with saline serum 0.9% on three
sessions in 20 minutes. Signs of respiratory distress, wheezing, respiratory rate, pulse,
Sao2 and PEF were assessed.
Magnesium sulphate showed a significant effect in improving respiratory rate, Sao2
and PEF starting from the 20th minute( P <0.05), but did not observe the effect of MgSO4
in improving signs of respiratory distress, pulse and wheezing(P> 0,05), no side effects
attributed to magnesium sulphate were observed.Inhaled MgSO4, incombination with
salbutamol, appears to have benefits in the treatment of acute asthma attack.
Type 2 Diabetes mellitus T2DM has been suggested to be the most common
metabolic disorder associated with magnesium deficiency which has many adverse
outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate plasma Mg in 126 T2DM patients
recruited from Dia
betes Centre in Lattakia, compare them to 70 healthy individuals, and
assess the correlation between plasma Mg and HbA1c as a glycemic control biomarker.
Magnesium was measured using xylidyl blue colorimetric method. HbA1c was measured
using ion-exchange resin separation. The SPSS 19.0 software was used for statistical
analysis. Mean plasma Mg concentrations of the diabetics was significantly lower than
controls (P=0.0001). Plasma magnesium was negatively correlated with HbA1c (r=-0.5,
P=0.0002). Plasma magnesium was below the normal reference range (1.9-2.5 mg/dL) in
47.6% of diabetics and 28.6% of controls. In conclusion, it is important to monitor Mg
levels in both T2DM patients and non-diabetics and take procedures to correct
hypomagnesaemia states.
Porous glasses were produced using sheet glass cullet with added
magnesium carbonate MgCO3 as foams agents .The structure of glasses
tinged with silver bromide by porous glasses, was studied by UV–VIS
spectroscopy, transmission of light and X-ray diffraction XRD
techniques. glasses plates were obtained by impregnation of porous
glasses at first with AgNO3 aqueous solution , next in the KBr aqueous
solution. Then the samples was sintered at temperatures 950°C up to
closing of the pores. The results of spectroscopy study have shown that
the glasses tinged plates, according to XRD data, the glasses tinged
contain the AgBr phase.
Serum levels of vitamins E and C were measured in 15 patients with Osteoarthritis
( OA ) and those patients received Magnesium 10mg /kg /day for
two weeks ,and 15 healthy subjects as a control group
Patients were classified into subgroups ,those w
ith OA according to
disease activity and /or sevirety .
