A total of 300 one day old chicks (150 Commercial broiler
chicks,150 local Syrian chicks) were raised for 6 weeks in order to
measure blood concentration of Growth hormone ,There were 2
treatments 3 replications for each. At the end of every week
6 birds
were weighed and bled in order to examine growth hormone.
The current investigation was conducted to study some
productive properties( body weight, body weight gain, feed intake,
feed conversion ratio, carcass composition, and carcass cuts ) on
some broiler strains in Syria ( Ross, Hubbard, and Shefer ).
Ten growing Shami female dromedaries, 27 weeks old were used to
determine peripheral levels of glucose, IGF-1 and leptin in prepubertal Shami
dromedary heifers. Body weight(BW) was measured and blood samples were
collected weekly from the jugular
vein for 6 months in EDTA-containing tubes.
Serum was separated and stored at −20°C for later analysis. Glucose was
determined using a colorimetric glucose oxidase kit. Serum concentrations of
IGF-1 and leptin were assayed using some modifications of bovine radioimmunoassay
procedures. Animals were grouped according to their birth date,
body weight or average daily gain and variations in the plasma concentrations
of parameters as well as to the effect of studied factors were tested and assessed
by analysis of variance using the general linear model, repeated measurements
procedures of SAS. It is reported for the first time information on peripheral
levels of glucose, IGF-1 and leptin hormones in sexually immature dromedary
heifers and results indicated that BW had a significant effect (p<0.05) on IGF-1
levels. Overall means for glucose, Igf-1 and leptin, were 188 ± 4.11 mg\dl, 222 ±
6.43 ng\ml, and13.27 ± 0.16 ng\ml, respectively and it was found that those
concentrations were greater than values in sexually immature females in the
other domestic animals. Such information might be helpful for specialists to
search for the role of these hormones in the reproductive function and develop
breeding programs to reduce the period of the onset of puberty and increase
the reproductive performance of dromedary camels.
This Study was carried-out in Karahta station for improvement of Shami
goats, Directorate of Animal Production Research, Ministry of Agriculture and
Agrarian Reform. Fifty growing Shami male goats aged ٣ months, were used to
measure the growth rat
e of testicular parameters, their relation to the
development of body weight and the effect of several factors on their
development from weaning at ٣ months to ٢١ months of age. All kids housed
and managed under the same conditions.
Data on ١٦٠١ records over five years were used to study the reproductive
and productive performance of Awassi ewes kept at the animal husbandry
station (Darnajookh) in Iraq.
The overall means were ٨٠,٦٩±١,١٪, ١,٠٧٧±٠,٠٠٨, ٩٢,٨٢±٠,٨٣٪,
٠,٨٠٥±٠,٠١٤
, ١٨,٩٨±٠,٣٥ kg, ٥٣,٣٨±٠,٣٢ kg and ٢٢,٥١±٠,١٨ kg for
fertility, litter size, pre-weaning survival rate, number of lambs weaned per
ewe exposed to the rams, ewe productivity ( total weight of lambs weaned
per ewe exposed to the rams), body weight of ewe at breeding and weaning
weight of lambs, respectively.
Thirty weaned Awassi lambs (٧٥ days old), reared in the metabolic unit at
the College of Agriculture, University of Damascus, were randomly divided into
٥ groups to study the effect of consumed crude protein level available in the
rations on the daily gain rate, live body weight and the food converting rate.
