The free iodine (I2) in povidone-iodine (PVP-I) solutions is responsible for its bactericidal activity, the bactericidal effect is steadily increased with the free iodine concentration. This study aims to compare some of povidone-iodine solutions c ommon at the local market with one solution produced by Mundipharma company (Betadine®) which used as a reference. Commercial samples (PVP-I 10%) were obtained from three local companies (A, B, C), with one batch from each company. The research included controlling free iodine concentration, pH and evaluation of bactericidal activity by using disc diffusion method and rapidity of the bactericidal activity on both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The local samples solutions showed low pH values compared with Betadine®, furthermore, all the solutions extracted by heptane showed high levels of free iodine with a preference for one local company. The high level of free iodine was accompanied with an increase of inhibition diameter and rapidity of bactericidal effect.
This study aims to compare the results of two methods ,used to determinate arsenic in mixed and aqueous media: proposed potintiometrc titration and referenced atomic absorption and then applied the proposed method to some environmental samples. In this paper, Arsenic)III( has been titrated with iodine in aqueous and mixed media using the direct method and platinum electrode after choosing optimal technical and analytical conditions. The atomic absorption, which is often used to determine the arsenic in many applications, has been chosen as comparison guide, where the reaction take place between sodium borate (NaBH4) and arsenic Acid H3AsO3 to produce the effective compound AsH3 used to determine arsenic by this instrument . Different statistical treatments were used to evaluate the result of the determination of arsenic in desired media. The result of this investigation suggest that , it’s highly recommend to use the proposed method for its high efficiency, ease, simplicity and low cost comparing with atomic absorption technique that requires expensive equipment
This research depends on treating different waste polystyrenes like; general purpose polystyrene, foamed polystyrene (styropor), high impact, and rubber modified polystyrene (HIPS) by thermal cracking in order to have liquid products which might b e used as additives to gasoline. These products are essentially aromatics and aromatic olefines of a high octane number > ١٠٠, free from sulfer and lead, and they are able to be used as octane boosters. It is possible to redistill these products in order to have styene monomer with a yield of ٤٠ - ٤٣٪, which can be used after that for polymerisation purposes.
