The study included 144 Free – living fish from the Lake of 16 Tishreen Dam, collected randomly during the period from 12/2011 until 11/2012, on monthly basis to detect the infection with Epistylis sp. and determine its distribution rate. Fish sam ples were: Cyprinus carpio L., Varicorhinus damascinus, Garra rufus, Tilapia zilli, and Liza abu. Tilapia zilli was the most prevalent in the lake of 16 Tishreen Dam. The study revealed fish infection with Epistylis sp. on free – living fish in the Lake, with a total infection rate 22.22 % , mainly on Tilapia zillii (29.70 %) and then on mullet (2%);No infection with Epistylis sp. Was recorded on the other fish species. The infection with this ecto Epistylis sp. was recorded for the first time in Syria in our study. The infection with Epistylis sp. was located on the skin, fins and gills. The highest infection rate was on the fins ( 42.34 %) , followed by skin (37.46 %) , and then by gills (1.87 %) . The infection with Epistylis sp. had the highest rate in summer ; i.e. during high temperature , low concentration of dissolved oxygen , and slightly high value of BOD. The study showed that, the water of 16 Tishreen Dam is relatively clean.
This study aimed at determining some indicators of water quality in Lattakia dams within ten years (2002-2011).The indicators(pH, Electrical conductivity,Total Hardness, ca Hardness, Mg Hardness, Alkalinity, Phenol Alkalinity) in five dams (Balloran, 16 Tishreen, Al-thawra, Al-safarkia and Al-hweez) were studied. The resultsshowed thatpH, Electrical conductivity,Total Hardness, Alkalinity, Phenol Alkalinity, were within the allowed limits according to Syrian standards for drinking and irrigation water and which indicate the presence of pollution water sources.
Green chemistry requires concepts and industrial ecology using natural systems to rid industrial water flow from heavy metals, which effects badly on health and environment. For this purpose, the changes in coefficient of distribution of mercury has been studied in system with two phases, liquid (water contaminated with mercury) - solid (metal pyrite) correlation of the following factors: Time of mixing phases, size of the developed steel, change the values of pH, concentration of elemental mercury, the concentration of calcium as a competitor to the occupation of sites available on the solid phase, the ratio V / M presents the water phase size on the mass of phase, which reflects the remaining time of water phase in the solid phase. The results show that pyrite can be proposed as safe environmental solution for purification of water phase of mercury, after controlling for some operation transactions.
This research includes a detailed study of the daily and monthly changes to the intensity of total solar radiation in the city of Homs (34.75N °, 36.7 E °), and a direct measurement of the intensity. The study shows that intensity increases to max imum values in summer 1100w / m2, and drops to lesser values in winter 600 w / m2. The difference between the measured values in summer and winter is due to: a change in the inclination of the sun, and implicitly solar azimuth z. This angle is at its greatest in winter and the optical path is at the maximum. Thus, the processes of scattering and absorption increase. In summer, the inclination angle is at its lowest and the optical path is at the minimum. Thus, the absorption and scattering of solar radiation are at the minimum.
In this research, the natural pyrite ore found in Tartous Governorate was described by studying the two samples taken from Hosn Suleiman -Safita (A) and Al Qadmous (B) area, in addition to studying the optimum conditions for pyrite dissolution (pH - time - quantity) with aerobic conditions. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the sample (A) is mainly composed of pyrite mineral and does not contain impurities, while sample (B) is composed of pyrite mineral combined with a small amount of calcite mineral, and these results were confirmed by the result of (FTIR) infrared spectroscopy and Polarised light microscopy (PLM(. The iron percentage in the two samples (A,B) is ranged between (42.6 – 43 %) and the sulfur percentage is between (40 – 53.7 %). With regard to pyrite dissolution, the results showed that pyrite taken from Hosn Suleiman (A) begins to dissolve at pH values less than 4.5, and the contact time is about 6 hours. By Comparing the results of sample (A) with sample (B), we found that the dissolution of sample (A) was about three times less than the dissolution of sample (B), and this is due to the fact that sample (A) contains pure and well crystallized pyrite ore while sample (B) contains pyrite combind with calcite, which increases its solubility.
