Purpose: to study the Distribution of intraocular pressure in the age group 20-40 years old and the related factors: age, gender, family history, BMI, smoking. Methods: This was a population-based cross-sectional study of 1000 subjects All participant underwent IOP (intraocular pressure) measurement and a standardized survey for the initial data of the study. Results: The mean IOP for the study subjects was (17.6mmHg); the mean IOP in men was higher than women (17.53) vs (16.8) mmHg respectively. Ocular hypertension was found in 16.8% participants. IOP increased 0.5 mmHg for every 10 years of age. BMI (Body Mass Index) had a positive association with IOP. Subjects with positive family history of ocular hypertension had higher IOP (18.46) vs (16.98) mmHg. IOP was higher in smokers’ group (17.77) vs (16.29) mmHg. Multivariate analyzing showed that aging, smoking, male sex, family history were independent risk factors for ocular hypertension, otherwise there was no significant relationship between ocular hypertension and BMI.

Artificial intelligence review:
Research summary
Critical review

As dental caries are among the most common chronic diseases, the study of their prevalence and severity in a specific population area can contribute to constructing necessary plans for treatment and prevention. This study aimed to assess the rate of prevalence and severity of dental caries in 13 -15 years – old children in Lattakia City and to study the effects of the different factors and their relation to the grade of the severity of the dental caries. The study was conducted on 1680 children. The sample was divided into four main groups, depending on the grade of severity of the dental caries. The analysis of data showed that the prevalence of dental caries was 67.1±1.92% and the DMFT value was 2.35. The study also showed that mother feeding, the factor of dental care and socioeconomical factors are important in all groups
Aim: to study the prevalence of glaucomatous injury in pseudoexfoliation patients, and the relation of these injuries with IOP values. Methods: 75 PXS eyes were compared with 75 age matched control eyes, and so 21 unilateral PXS patients were stud ied by comparing their two eyes. The study contained ONH study with Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT), and mean and range of IOP values. Results: ONH parameters which were compared between patients and controls included: disk area, rim area, cup area, mean RNFL thickness, vertical cup\disk ratio, MRA result, and GPS result. The difference was significant in all these parameters between patients and controls, also it was significant in mean IOP and its fluctuation. For unilateral PXS patients, no statistically significant difference was found in ONH parameters between the two eyes, but there was in IOP mean and range. Conclusion: PXS eyes are at high risk for developing glaucomatous optic nerve injuries, which were more probable with raised IOP mean and range; the risk also involved the other normal eye in unilateral PXS, certaining the systemating nature of pseudo exfoliation disease.
Skin tags are common benign skin tumors usually occurring on the neck and major flexors of older people. Objective: To investigate and compare the prevalence of diabetes and disorders of triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, and HDL levels in patients wit h skin tags and a control group. A case-control study was conducted in individuals between (25-70) years old, comparing cases (n=107) and age-, sex-matched controls (n=97) without skin tag. Cases and controls were recruited from patients consecutively seen at the outpatient dermatology clinic at Al-Assad University Hospital in Lattakia. All patients underwent standard laboratory tests of fasting blood sugar , triglycerides , cholesterol , LDL , and HDL levels. Results: Patients with skin tags had higher frequency of diabetes and higher levels of triglycerides , cholesterol , and LDL than the control group (P <=0.0001) and lower levels of HDL in patients with skin tags than the control group (P<=0.001). A positive correlation was found between the existing of skin tags and high BMI comparing with the control group (P<=0.0001). According to our results, skin tags might be a useful clinical sign that could alert clinicians to screen patients with skin tags for abnormal lipids, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease, and guide patients with skin tags to modify their life style, avoiding risk factors and making clinical laboratory check-up periodically
This study includes (409)pregnant women elected from patients who have been admitted to the department of obstetrics and gynecology or outpatient clinic belonging to Assad University Hospital in Lattakia during the study period from 01/09/2014 up t o 01/09/2015.patients have been classified in tow groups: symptomatic and non symptomatic(109 and 300 patient respectively). It has been diagnosed asymptomatic bacteriuria in accordance with the standard (Edward Kass) at a rate (12%).We found that the age lesser than 30 years, is a risk factor important in the occurrence of urinary infection ,there is no importance for the pattern of work, and most of the cases of the asymptomatic bacteriuria is in the second trimester (14-28 weeks) and multigravida account of (73.9 %) of the group of bacteriuric asymptomatic patients.Study shows that the bacterial urine culture is the golden diagnostic test to detect urinary tract infection in pregnant women, and it also shows the non-reliability of the urinalysis test, because of the high false negativity in the diagnosis of asymptomatic bacteriuria .Escherichia coli was the most common bacterial organisim causing bacterial urinary infections in patients study, by 66.7% for a frank urinary sepsis, and 80.2% for the group asymptomatic bacteriuria .
