This research aims to study the distribution of Phytoplankton in four locations which have different environmental specifications, in addition to study some environmental factors of Alhaffeh Dam water that affect the distribution of the phytoplankton (Temperature ,BOD, DO, pH, NO3, NO2, NH4, PO4). This study was achieved through Mars 2011 until February 2012 the samples collected monthly from Baksa dam from different four location which differenced each other with chemical and physical qualities. We could in these study classified 132 speci es of phytoplankton distributed as 59 species belong to chrysophyta, 40 species of chlorophyta and 28 species of cyanophyta , 5 species of Euglenophyta. Physical and chemicalanalyzing ofBaksa waters showed the difference of values between studding regions, The concentration of Nitrate ions ranged between 17.7 mg/l at third location and 0.3 mg/l at second location, The highest rate to Phosphate ions was 18.8 mg/l and the less was 0.01mg/l, and it was noticed the difference in these values in the same region with the difference of period of time. The diversity and distribution of studied phytoplankton correlated with the environmental factors. It was noticed The abundance of cyanophytain the water of third location which near to the sewage channels which is suitable environment to these group of phytoplankton.
This study was carried out during the period 2011–2010 for 12 months. 110 species of phytoplankton in Al-Kabir Al-Shamali River were identified including 4 species of Euglenophyta, 15 species of Cyanophyta, 49 species of Chrysophyta, 40 species of Chlorophyta and 2 species of Pyrrophyta. Some physicochemical parameters of water were determined. Some of them were the temperature which ranged between 10.8–28°C, the pH 7.76–8.2 and the BOD 1.6–10mg/l, while the concentrations of NO3 - ranged between 1.10-250 mg/l, nitrate 0.13-0.01mg/l, and PO4 - ions 0.015–1.05 mg/l. The highest value of ammonium ions was 6.25mg/l and the lowest was 0.011 mg/l. BOD concentrations ranged between 6.06-12.07mg/l.
The research aims to determine the water Quality Index for the Lake of 16 Tishreen Dam. To achieve this aim, we have carried out different periodical physic-chemical and bacterial measurements on the lake water. The samples were taken at five sites along the lake for a period of one complete year. The indicators that have been measured are: Temperature, Turbidity, PH, EC, DO, BOD5, NO3, NO2, NH4 ,PO4, F.C. Measurement results were represented diagrammatically, and compared with the Syrian Specification Standards for portable Water. The lake was classed according to these Indices: Malays quality index, Canadian Indices (NSFWQI), (NEWWQI). The Lake was Classed according to these indices as following: from third grade at all locations (Malays Index), from second grade at the middle lake and from a third grade to all other locations (NSFWQI), and from second grade at all locations (NEWWQI). According to this indices the water is not good for drinking and needs treatment. The Productivity of the lake was determined. The Lake is Eutrophic according to TN,TP in the middle but Hypertrophic according to TN,TP in all other locations.

This environmental research was conducted on the coastal water of Tartous city for the first time to complement previous studies along the Syrian coast. Sampling station were selected based on their different environmental characteristics from each o thers on one hand, and their continuous exposure to the sources of pollution (oil, chemical, organic) on the other hand. This study has recorded 160 species of phytoplankton in study sites, distributed as follows: 91 species of Chryssophyta, 50 of Pyrrophyta, 11 of Chlorophyta, and 8 of Cyanophyta, their distribution has differed from one site to another and from month to monthaccordingto the differentiation in the environmental conditions.
