Experiments Has been made on lime mortar which have a weak
resistance so we added materials like pozolan, and bricks to
improve the mechanical properties of the mixture, as we added
fiberglass to the mix, and study their effect on the mechanical
properties of mortar, also experiments has been made on natural
limestone which used in the construction, experiments on samples
of mural prismatic composed of stone and mortar to see pressure
strength of mural samples, and mural samples subjected to
curvature to determine tensile strength of stone walls with
limestone mortar reinforced with fiber glass.
We observed increase in the mural samples tensile strength about
73% when we added a small amount of fiber glass doesn't exceed
2% of the proportion of the existing lime in the mixture, which
shows the effective improvement in the mortar extracted
specifications.
Restoration of ancient structures is an important part of
reconstruction process which will be witnessed by our country, the
aim of this research is to improve a local manufacturers lime mortar.
In this research the influence of the fineness of natural
pozzolana and lime on the properties of compaction ,
unconfined compressive strength and linear shrinkage of
clayey soil was experimented the finessess of natural pozzolana
used in this re
earch were 3500,4000,4500 cm²/g , finessess of
lime 4000 , 5000 , 6000 cm²/g.
Being critical, the stability of clayey soil, is a priority for the
civil engineer in constructions of roads and buildings. This
experimental study comes in the context of examination of the
effectiveness of menial stabilizers. Lime (L), Natural P
ozzolana
(NP), and Combinations of both, were examined to enhance the
characteristics of compaction, consistency and to restrict the
shrinkage behavior of clayey soil.
The purpose of this research is to study the improvement of soil properties by the
addition of lime in certain percentages. The soil used in this study was obtained from the
Baseet region, which is located by the Syrian coast. We have studied the e
ffect of lime on
the consistency, the swell characteristics and the shear strength of soil.
The results of this study have shown a remarkable reduction of both liquid and
shrinkage limits, and the plasticity index with the increase of lime percentage. As for
plasticity limit, it increases in the beginning then decreases slightly with the rising of lime
percentage.
For the volumetric variation, the susceptibility of swelling and the shrinkage of
improved soil with lime decrease, and the free swelling and the swelling pressure become
almost negligible with 4% of lime.
Based on the shear strength results, we can indicate a notable increase in the friction
angle and cohesion of soil with increasing of lime percentage up to 8% of lime. After that,
these two factors decrease.
Through the soil stabilization we follow improvement of the physical
properties of the soil by adding chemical binding materials. This paper deals
with the treatment of soil samples collected from four locations in the south of
Syria, that would b
e used in irrigation canals basement . The binding
material used for the soil treatment is quicklime (CaO). After different
treatments the soil samples have a different behaviour after addition of Lime in
the same percent which reflects their ability to be stabilized.
