Mandible articulates with the cranium via the TMJ. All the components of the TMJ, including the TMJ disc, seem to be associated with altered characteristics of the craniofacial complex and its growth. However, the exact role of the TMJ disc thickne ss during the process of the facial growth is not clear yet. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the TMJ disc thickness and the facial growth determined according to Jarabak in adult male subjects with no clinical or MRI symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders.
A retrospective study included 25 cases with inflammatory breast cancer. The patients were admitted to AL-Assad University Hospital, Lattakia, Syria (average age 55, and range 49-61 years old). The most common clinical signs and symptoms were: erythe ma 100%, edema 100%, enlarged axillary nodes 100%, Nipple flattened/inverted 96%, warm Breast 92%, Ridges/thickening of breast 84%, Peau d’orange 88%, painful/tender Breast 88%, and Mass 80%. Mammography findings were: an increase in skin thickness 100%, an increased tissue density in the involved breast 100%, and an asymmetric widening of the sub-cutaneous lymphatic vessels 33.33%. 80% of cases were diagnosed as stage IV. All patients received primary neoadjuvant chemotherapy for three cycles. After that a modified radical breast mastectomy and axillary lymph nodes dissection were performed for all patients. The wound edges were closed primarily after dissecting the skin in 76%, for 4 patients 16% a split-thickness skin grafts were performed, and for 2 patients 8% a Latissimus dorsi pedicled myocutaneous flap was performed.
Aim: To evaluate and compare the rate of cholesteatoma recurrence after Atticotomy surgery to that after Canal Wall Up Mastoidectomy (CWU). Material and Methods: The study involved 57 patients admitted to the ENT Department Almoassat Hospital. A tticotomy was performed in 30 cases, whilst CWU mastoidectomy within 27 cases. Follow up period was extended for two years to compare the symptoms and the necessity for second Ossiculoplasty surgery. Results: The recurrence rate was 23.33 % within atticotomy group, whilst it was 22.21 % in CWU group. CWU mastoidectomy showed better outputs in diffused cholesteatoma cases. Conclusion: A limited cystic cholesteatoma can be treated effectively by atticotomy, however CWU mastoidectomy remains the favorable technique to manage a diffused cholesteatoma.
GERD raises respiratory symptoms and the treatment of anti- GERD improve these symptoms and improve pulmonary function, sometimes GERD silent clinically which makes us unaware of the role of GERD in pathogenesis of respiratory infections which lead ing to increased incidence of respiratory symptoms in patients with GERD and for this reason we must search for GERD in chronic respiratory infections not responding to treatment. To determine the prevalence of clinical symptoms associated with GERD in children and to define the role of treatment of anti-GERD in the management of respiratory symptoms in children.
