We prove sharp blow up rates of solutions of higher order conformally invariant equations in a bounded domain with an isolated singularity, and show the asymptotic radial symmetry of the solutions near the singularity. This is an extension of the celebrated theorem of Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck for the second order Yamabe equation with isolated singularities to higher order equations. Our approach uses blow up analysis for local integral equations, and is unified for all critical elliptic equations of order smaller than the dimension. We also prove the existence of Fowler solutions to the global equations, and establish a sup*inf type Harnack inequality of Schoen for integral equations.

We prove that any positive solution of the Yamabe equation on an asymptotically flat $n$-dimensional manifold of flatness order at least $frac{n-2}{2}$ and $nle 24$ must converge at infinity either to a fundamental solution of the Laplace operator on the Euclidean space or to a radial Fowler solution defined on the entire Euclidean space. The flatness order $frac{n-2}{2}$ is the minimal flatness order required to define ADM mass in general relativity; the dimension $24$ is the dividing dimension of the validity of compactness of solutions to the Yamabe problem. We also prove such alternatives for bounded solutions when $n>24$. We prove these results by establishing appropriate asymptotic behavior near an isolated singularity of solutions to the Yamabe equation when the metric has a flatness order of at least $frac{n-2}{2}$ at the singularity and $n<24$, also when $n>24$ and the solution grows no faster than the fundamental solution of the flat metric Laplacian at the singularity. These results extend earlier results of L. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, also of N. Korevaar, R. Mazzeo, F. Pacard and R. Schoen, when the metric is conformally flat, and work of C.C. Chen and C. S. Lin when the scalar curvature is a non-constant function with appropriate flatness at the singular point, also work of F. Marques when the metric is not necessarily conformally flat but smooth, and the dimension of the manifold is three, four, or five, as well as recent similar results by the second and third authors in dimension six.
If $U:[0,+infty[times M$ is a uniformly continuous viscosity solution of the evolution Hamilton-Jacobi equation $$partial_tU+ H(x,partial_xU)=0,$$ where $M$ is a not necessarily compact manifold, and $H$ is a Tonelli Hamiltonian, we prove the set $Si gma(U)$, of points where $U$ is not differentiable, is locally contractible. Moreover, we study the homotopy type of $Sigma(U)$. We also give an application to the singularities of a distance function to a closed subset of a complete Riemannian manifold.
We use blow up analysis for local integral equations to prove compactness of solutions to higher order critical elliptic equations provided the potentials only have non-degenerate zeros. Secondly, corresponding to Schoens Weyl tensor vanishing conjec ture for the Yamabe equation on manifolds, we establish a Laplacian vanishing rate of the potentials at blow up points of solutions.
We solve the nonlinear Dirichlet problem (uniquely) for functions with prescribed asymptotic singularities at a finite number of points, and with arbitrary continuous boundary data, on a domain in euclidean space. The main results apply, in particula r, to subequations with a Riesz characteristic $p geq 2$. In this case it is shown that, without requiring uniform ellipticity, the Dirichlet problem can be solved uniquely for arbitrary continuous boundary data with singularities asymptotic to the Riesz kernel: $Theta_j K_p(x - x_j)$, where $K_p(x) = - {1over|x|^{p-2}}$ for $p>2$ and $K_2(x) = log |x|$, at any prescribed finite set of points $x_1,...,x_k$ in the domain and any finite set of positive real numbers $Theta_1,..., Theta_k$. This sharpens a previous result of the authors concerning the discreteness of high-density sets of subsolutions. Uniqueness and existence results are also established for finite-type singularities such as $Theta_j |x - x_j|^{2-p}$ for $1leq p<2$. The main results apply similarly with prescribed singularities asymptotic to the fundamental solutions of Armstrong-Sirakov-Smart (in the uniformly elliptic case).

We consider a sequence of blowup solutions of a two dimensional, second order elliptic equation with exponential nonlinearity and singular data. This equation has a rich background in physics and geometry. In a work of Bartolucci-Chen-Lin-Tarantello it is proved that the profile of the solutions differs from global solutions of a Liouville type equation only by a uniformly bounded term. The present paper improves their result and establishes an expansion of the solutions near the blowup points with a sharp error estimate.
