SST satellite images analysis has showed many characteristics for a lot of mesoscale eddies in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea. In this study, the SST analysis is focalised on the mesoscale eddies` formation at the Syrian coasts. We are also interested by their characteristics for their influences on the marine environment .

In this study, SST satellite images analysis (from September 2015 to November 2016) is focalised on the monitoring of the mesoscale eddies in the eastern Levantine subbasin (at the Syrian coasts as well as the neighboring coasts).
This study examines the ability of some marine algae (Padina pavonica and Hypnea musciformis) on accumulating polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHS). The samples were collected from five sites on the Syrian coast during 2011. The study revealed t hat the studied algae were able to accumulate PAHs. Their concentrations in Padina pavonica ranged from 21.53 to 54.76 ng/g dw, While in Hypenea they ranged from 43.59 to 24.96. ng/g dw. The Padina Pavonica of DIRASAT site accumulated the largest amount of PAHs compounds, while the highest concentrations of these compounds in Hypenea Musciformis were observed in the BISTAN AL-BASHA site. Fluorine and phenanthrene recorded high concentration in the studied algae in comparison with the rest of the aromatic compounds containing three aromatic rings, and the total concentration of the compounds with three rings was higher than that in those compounds with four or five aromatic rings. The logarithm bioconcentration factors (log BCF) of the aromatic compounds with three aromatic rings was close to the logarithm octanol/water partitioning coefficients (log Kow ), unlike the compounds with higher rings, where log BCF was obviously less than that in the corresponding log Kow.
Detailed sedimentary study of the Southern section of the Syrian Continental shelf (N 35.16022 E 35.92712: N 34.71354 E 35.94267) has been carried out in order to determine the sediment nature and distribution. The study of coastal sandy samples (fro m beach to 2m water depth) revealed variation in the sand colours from place to place. This indicates that there are many sources for coastal sand mostly derived from the hinterlands. Six sediment sorting types were identified along the continental shelf and these are: Sand; Sandy Mud; Slightly Gravelly Sand; Slightly Gravelly Muddy Sand; Slightly Gravelly Sandy Mud; and Gravel. The textural studies clearly establish that the sediments are of medium grain size, moderately well sorted, very negatively skewed and mesokurtic. These parameters confirm that the sediments were deposited under moderate to high energy conditions. These conditions vary from place to another according to the place of deposition and the nature of the source material on one hand and the severity of the kinetic energy namely ocean currents, marine eddies, waves and tides on the other hand.
The eddies at the Egyptian and the Middle East coasts are generated by the instability of the surface circulation (AW: Atlantic Water). For describing these eddies, a lot of satellite images (SST: Sea Surface Temperature) have been treated and analyz ed at the Levantine sub-basin. This study inferred that there is an approchement in the eddies´ trajectory in both south west and south east of the Levantine sub-basin, where most eddies tend to separate from AW towards off sea. While eddies in the south east of the Levantine develop faster than that in the south west.
