أوضحت المعطيات الطيفية للمعقدات المحضرة بالأشعة ما تحت الحمراء و الأشعة فوق البنفسجية بأن المرتبطة المحضرة تسلك سلوك مرتبطة أحادية السن نتساند من خلال أكسجين الكربونيل أو عن طريق الأزوت السياني في المعقدات رباعية البيريدين بالمقابل يمكن للمرتبطة استيل دي سيان ميتانيد أن تسلك سلوك مرتبطة جسرية ثمانية الوجوه بوليميرية أو ثمانية الوجوه مشوهة بالمعقدات ثنائية البيريدين تكون
فيها ذرة الاكسجين الكربونيلي و الازوت السياني هي الذرات المانحة .
