Abstract Common grounding is the process of creating and maintaining mutual understandings, which is a critical aspect of sophisticated human communication. While various task settings have been proposed in existing literature, they mostly focus on creating common ground under a static context and ignore the aspect of maintaining them overtime under dynamic context. In this work, we propose a novel task setting to study the ability of both creating and maintaining common ground in dynamic environments. Based on our minimal task formulation, we collected a large-scale dataset of 5,617 dialogues to enable fine-grained evaluation and analysis of various dialogue systems. Through our dataset analyses, we highlight novel challenges introduced in our setting, such as the usage of complex spatio-temporal expressions to create and maintain common ground. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments to assess the capabilities of our baseline dialogue system and discuss future prospects of our research.

An increasingly common requirement in distributed network environments is the need to distribute security mechanisms across several network components. This includes both cryptographic key distribution and cryptographic computation. Most proposed se curity mechanisms are based on threshold cryptography, which allows a cryptographic computation to be shared amongst network components in such a way that a threshold of active components are required for the security operation to be successfully enabled. Although there are many different proposed techniques available, we feel that the practical issues that determine both what kind of technique is selected for implementation and how it is implemented are often glossed over. In this paper we thus establish a new framework for network security architects to apply when considering adoption of such mechanisms. This framework identifies the critical design decisions that need to be taken into account and is intended to aid both design and implementation. As part of this framework we propose a taxonomy of management models and application environments. We also demonstrate the utility of the framework by applying it to a VPN environment.
In the Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) task an embodied agent navigates a 3D environment, following natural language instructions. A challenge in this task is how to handle off the path' scenarios where an agent veers from a reference path. Prio r work supervises the agent with actions based on the shortest path from the agent's location to the goal, but such goal-oriented supervision is often not in alignment with the instruction. Furthermore, the evaluation metrics employed by prior work do not measure how much of a language instruction the agent is able to follow. In this work, we propose a simple and effective language-aligned supervision scheme, and a new metric that measures the number of sub-instructions the agent has completed during navigation.
Text-based games can be used to develop task-oriented text agents for accomplishing tasks with high-level language instructions, which has potential applications in domains such as human-robot interaction. Given a text instruction, reinforcement lear ning is commonly used to train agents to complete the intended task owing to its convenience of learning policies automatically. However, because of the large space of combinatorial text actions, learning a policy network that generates an action word by word with reinforcement learning is challenging. Recent research works show that imitation learning provides an effective way of training a generation-based policy network. However, trained agents with imitation learning are hard to master a wide spectrum of task types or skills, and it is also difficult for them to generalize to new environments. In this paper, we propose a meta reinforcement learning based method to train text agents through learning-to-explore. In particular, the text agent first explores the environment to gather task-specific information and then adapts the execution policy for solving the task with this information. On the publicly available testbed ALFWorld, we conducted a comparison study with imitation learning and show the superiority of our method.
We study in this research proposing and testing a new optimal algorithm in performance and speed is suitable for caching of web objects with dynamic content through studying the conventional classic algorithms that are common in caching web pages and studying how they can deal with caching web pages that have dynamic contents due to their great importance and spread in web sites and what they cause of overload on web servers to get a new algorithm that performs an optimal performance in dialing with this type of web pages.
