In this semi-technical review we discuss string theory (and all that goes by that name) as a framework for a quantum theory of gravity. This is a new paradigm in theoretical physics that goes beyond relativistic quantum field theory. We provide concrete evidence for this proposal. It leads to the resolution of the ultra-violet catastrophe of Einsteins theory of general relativity and an explanation of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy (of a class of black holes) in terms of Boltzmanns formula for entropy in statistical mechanics. We discuss `the holographic principle and its precise and consequential formulation in the AdS/CFT correspondence of Maldacena. One consequence of this correspondence is the ability to do strong coupling calculations in SU(N) gauge theories in terms of semi-classical gravity. In particular, we indicate a connection between dissipative fluid dynamics and the dynamics of black hole horizons. We end with a discussion of elementary particle physics and cosmology in the framework of string theory. We do not cover all aspects of string theory and its applications to diverse areas of physics and mathematics, but follow a few paths in a vast landscape of ideas. This article presents an extended model of gravity obtained by gauging the AdS-Mawell algebra. It involves additional fields that shift the spin connection, leading effectively to theory of two independent connections. Extension of algebraic structur e by another tetrad gives rise to the model described by a pair of Einstein equations.
$f(R,T)$ gravity was proposed as an extension of the $f(R)$ theories, containing not just geometrical correction terms to the General Relativity equations, but also material correction terms, dependent on the trace of the energy-momentum tensor $T$. These material extra terms prevent the energy-momentum tensor of the theory to be conserved, even in a flat background. Energy nonconservation is a prediction of quantum theory with time-space noncommutativity. If time is considered as an operator and there are compact spatial coordinates which do not commute with time, then the time evolution gets quantized and energy conservation can be violated. In the present work we construct a model in a 5-dimensional flat spacetime consisting of 3 commutative spatial dimensions and 1 compact spatial dimension whose coordinate does not commute with time. We show that energy flows from the 3-dimensional commutative slice into the compact extra dimension (and vice-versa), so that conservation of energy is restored. In this model the energy flux is proportional to the energy density of the matter content, leading to a differential equation for $f(R,T)$, thus providing a physical criterion to restrict the functional form of $f(R,T)$. We solve this equation and analyze the behavior of its solution in a spherically symmetric context.

So far none of attempts to quantize gravity has led to a satisfactory model that not only describe gravity in the realm of a quantum world, but also its relation to elementary particles and other fundamental forces. Here we outline preliminary result s for a model of quantum universe, in which gravity is fundamentally and by construction quantic. The model is based on 3 well motivated assumptions with compelling observational and theoretical evidence: quantum mechanics is valid at all scales; quantum systems are described by their symmetries; Universe has infinite independent degrees of freedom. The last assumption means that the Hilbert space of the Universe has $SU(Nrightarrow infty) cong text{area preserving Diff.} (S_2)$ symmetry, which is parameterized by two angular variables. We show that in absence of a background spacetime, this Universe is trivial and static. Nonetheless, quantum fluctuations break the symmetry and divide the Universe to subsystems. When a subsystem is singled out as reference - {it observer} - and another as {it clock}, two more continuous parameters arise, which can be interpreted as distance and time. We identify the classical spacetime with parameter space of the Hilbert space of the Universe. Therefore, its quantization is meaningless. In this view, the Einstein equation presents the projection of quantum dynamics in the Hilbert space into its parameter space. Finite dimensional symmetries of elementary particles emerge as a consequence of symmetry breaking when the Universe is divided to subsystems/particles without having any implication for the infinite dimensional symmetry and its associated interaction percived as gravity. This explains why gravity is a universal force.
In this paper we analyze the energy levels of a charged scalar particle placed in the static cosmic string spacetime, under the action of a uniform magnetic field parallel to the string, in the context of the semi-classical approach of the rainbow gr avity. Firstly, we focus on the non-relativistic regime by solving the corresponding Schr{o}dinger equation, following by a complete relativistic treatment of the problem in which we considered the Klein-Gordon equation. In both cases we find exact expressions for the Landau levels in terms of the rainbow functions, used to characterize a rainbow gravity model. In order to achieve the results of this paper we considered three different rainbow gravity models mostly used in the literature and compare the resulting modifications in the Landau levels with the standard case, namely without rainbow gravity.
Following recent works on corner charges we investigate the boundary structure in the case of the theory of gravity formulated as a constrained BF theory. This allows us not only to introduce the cosmological constant, but also explore the influence of the topological terms present in the action of this theory. Established formulas for charges resemble previously obtained ones, but we show that they are affected by the presence of the cosmological constant and topological terms. As an example we discuss the charges in the case of the AdS--Schwarzschild solution and we find that the charges give correct values.
